that it is I have baked a few sets of headlights open this way. low heat for about 10 minutes softens up that silicone.
yea that works, or a heat gun(what i used when i blackhoused my accord lights).

theres write up's everywhere..
ive done maybe 6 sets, all by baking in a oven.people say not to bake it for too long,or bye bye to your headlights..i've had mine set at 260*f for 15 minutes, and it works wonders... you have to bake them again once your all done to seal it back together
goodluck
pj
did mine in the oven as well.. O0

The headlight assembly (http://www.partstrain.com/ShopByDepartment/Headlight Assembly) must be removed to remove the lens..Use a heat gun to soften the sealer and lift the lens off...BE CAREFUL when you clean the reflector it will scratch VERY EASY!

I use a 10 dollar heat gun, and screw driver.... and muscle...
Than I re-seal with silicone.....
I've been into mine 3 times..

Heat Gun. I opened mine and painted the housing black, The turn signal is gona be hard to paint. The Heat gun takes time. I didnt want to put my lights in the oven.

Well I think they are on 3? ball joints.
So I assume you just pull! Best done in warm weather 8)
To remove the whole headlight assembly (http://www.thepartsbin.com/repsite/toyota~headlight_assembly~reparts.html), I think you first need to remove the bumper.

Not to thread jack from the op, but is this method just as legit for the factory HID housings as the non-hid? And dubs...did you paint the lower turn signal from the inside or outside of the lens?
Dubs46
03-21-2011, 09:52 AM
It works for both. With the hid's you have to take everything out bulbs, ballast and etc. The non hid you just take the bulbs and harness off so it's easier. I actually painted them from the inside it was about 7 coats I let them air dry since the heat gun seemed to mess the paint for some reason. I also used the Oem amber piece to match it. Make sure to tape everything off correctly so you don't get amber anywhere where else on the lense.
