New stereo...new speakers??

If I get a new stereo that can support an ipod...do I have to replace the speakers? I was told that the higher the wattage of the stereo head, the faster the speakers will blow out. Should I just spend the extra money and get speakers or stick with just the stereo head.

Start with just a new head unit and see what you think. They really don't put out the power to blow the speakers unless you listen at a CRAZY volume. I installed an older Alpine and it improved the sound from the stock speakers. I'm happy with the change.
