View Full Version : Power gains on 2010 Evo with Works drop in?

I have searched and read about gains with Works or HKS drop-ins on 2008 Evo's. Based on what I have read, the gains are due to slight leaning of the stock rich AFR.

I have a new 2010. Since it already runs more lean (stock) than an 08 with the original rich tune, I am wondering if I would actually see any gains by merely swapping the paper filter for a Works or HKS drop-in. I am not ready to have the car tuned quite yet, so I am interested in gains related only to the filter change at this time.

Does anyone have any data related to drop in filter gains on 2010's?

15whp is bullshit unless something was wrong with the hks filter.

Sorry didnt mean to say +15 ontop of what the HKS was making, just that it was making 15hp over stock then the hks was making a little more than stock...

still hung ovewr but im looking for the post john put up
was the car tune at all once it received the drop in ??? kinda hard to believe 15 from a drop in just by installing a filter without tuning... N im sure if the car is stock, it can benefit just by tuning the car without the filter..

Xs make big power from the way a drop in filter can change the way the airflow hits the measured part of the MAF housing.

But why pay double for parts from far away when local shops stock the Cosworth (local also) filter? The Cossie filter here at RRE is only $43, HB Speed is probably similar. It is a dry filter so no oils to make the MAF trip out.

Buy a far away oiled expensive one and I'll dyno back to back for you between it and the local ones for free. Then you'll know :-) I have an HKS dropin filter that a customer abandoned here too to use as a comparison.

Interesting stuff guys, thanks.

The reason I am not looking for a full intake is that I am not ready for a tune yet. I am more interested in preserving the warranty for now.

I also have a Corvette Z06 that is moderately modified with intake, exhaust, and a tune. If I really want stupid fast, I can drive that. LOL The Evo is sweet right out of the box and I don't want to mess with it too much ..... for now. But if a simple drop in filter can gain some extra power, I will make the swap.

Not a stock car but a stock tune
ran them both a few times got the same result each time

Yes, it seemed to work just fine, but the custom tune was better, as was expected.
