That would be a dream come true! Lol! Move to OC!!!! Do it!!!!! Well, if you don't want the pirate hanging out there all day everyday then I wouldn't....lol

On the real thought IMO I think business over here would be BOOMING for you guys. OC is in the middle of every major city... It would be no problem for people driving to you guys being that close. Say if you where working on our cars and it was going to be a couple days, Finding someone to drive us back would be wayyyyyyy more easy... I vote get the hell over here! Lol

I think you should make a poll!

the more competition we can get in OC, the better it is for consumers... come on up!Â* O0

Anything closer to Los Angeles is better. OC would be more centralized.

It's a long drive to Santee.

To have another shop in addition to the one in Santee would probably be a way bigger headache on your part, but as a previous customer and a returning one, the convenience would be amazing! Regardless of location, the experience and results i received from my tune and parts is plenty for me to make the drive and continue business with Reese Tuning where ever it may be!

Really?!? So there won't be any "good" tuner shop in San Diego? Hellz No! C'mon let us just have one!

x[corwyn]
01-13-2010, 10:12 PM
I started off as a RRE customer when they were in HB. RRE has always been great for us, but ever since their move to that area they are at now, it takes way more planning and arrangements to get there...usually I have had to arrange a rental car etc etc. However in HB, both my roomie and I would probably be getting work done if the work is comparable in skill, prices, and parts... Then I could even skateboard home again like I did back in the day...

Well if you are thinking of closing up shop in Santee and then moving to OC my vote would be no because it would be so much harder to get work done by a credible shop. If you are just thinking of opening up another shop then I'm all for it, just make sure you're down here a lot. :-)

Instead of moving, i think expanding would be a better idea. For example, more worker, offer products, more worker, design and engineer, have your own line of product, etc... and so on. It seems you already have alot of buisness here in sd. Heck, i ask when would be a good time for a clutch job since the 5th? i think or even before. You said u were booked until the 17th!

Just my 02c.

Evolutionized
01-15-2010, 10:59 PM
if you expanded as in opening ANOTHER store james you know it wouldnt be up to the standard your current shop you work at is...

You are there everyday to make sure the job is done right and you are a perfectionist, hence why you shop is doig so well even though the SD market might not be the best people still make the long trips.

Opening another shop where you will not be to supervise has risks such as it not being as great as the reputation and everything you have built up in SD already.

i say stick to SD expand within what you already have and keep the costs lower.

Only do it if you yourself are coming with the shop Reese. I haven't been there but by your posts and the way others talk about you, I can already tell you're a no bs kind of guy. It'd be sick to have your shop out here cause I want a tune, but not at the expense of someone else running it.

Reese Tuning
01-16-2010, 02:03 PM
A lof of great ideas. Thanks for the feedback. This shop can't grow anymore. It has reached its full potential. Other than selling and producing parts we are tapped. People gripe about buying $200 dollar brake pads. Why produce more parts? Some customers complain about $477 clutch jobs?

I am in business to make money. To provide a quality service at a fair price. I love my job! What I am doing, is looking to seek another business venue. The customers in S.D are great. But when I read this thread only a few of you have ever been here and spent a dime. Not looking at the money issue but look at the people that would like to get tuned by me that I haven't met? See what I mean? I am looking to opening a small shop with a MD to provide tuning and install say two weeks out of the month.

Â* Just not sure about the entire idea. I will never leave S.D. That is a fact. Do not worry about that. My only thought was to open another actual tuning facility. Seems easy but a lot of other thoughts have came up. I was thinking I could work up there two weekd out of the month and two weeks in S.D. Very do able and seems wise. I can provide my services to a greater crowd of people. Rather than having the same ole people in S.D. It would be safer to say there are 30% more cars in the greater L.A cities than in San Diego. Anywho I will not be leaving S.D yet just looking for another way to provide my services elsewhere.

Â* Thank you for the comments.

Â* James Reese

Hmm if thats the case. I think your best bet would be a partnership somewhere up there. I hear there are alot of great wrenchers and tuners north of sd. Maybe contact a few to see if they would like to open up a shop and its a win-win situation, for you and them.

Reese Tuning

Bad idea to say the least. Partners do not work in this profession. Thanks for the thought though. There aren't that many that are successful. They may be great but didn't make it in a professional world.

aint that the fucking truth. i started my own business in 08 with a friend/coworker. we sold oem aftermarket parts on ebay and craigslist, everything was good, making money. anyway i caught him doing after hours installs at our warehouse/shop without my knowledge and pocketing the money and so i left. couldnt trust him anymore.

I think you said it well "Look at all the people who want a tune that have never met me" something along those lines. You sir are very social and provide lots of communication with the people on these boards. It's because of that, at least for me that I feel like I know you and that you are someone who actually cares about the clients you do work for. I would definitely like to go to your shop to get work done however a 3 hour round trip for tune and installs is a bit steep. As far as the 2 weeks here 2 weeks there issue I'm not sure how well that would work.

Have you ever seen that logging show on discovery channel. The people who work in that field work for 7-9-14 days on site then go home for a week or so. All that time away from family would mess with a mans mind and I'm sure you'd end up re-evaluating why you made the decision to open another shop and spend split time here and there. I say stay with one shop. I think there is greater business opportunity for you out here (OC). You'd be about ~half way from all major county's (SD, LA, SB) which would better you chances at getting those customers who've always wanted services from you but never did because of how far you were.

If you're thinking about moving I would say consider bringing up your family (if any, I don't know you personally so I'm not sure) and stop thinking to yourself that this 50% here / 50% there will work. I think you'd end up hating it.

This is just my 2 pennies worth and it's a pretty good idea of how I'd feel I were in your shoes. I wouldn't want to be away from my friends and family for half a year.

Reese,

I've never met you but have seen some of your work, as well been to several shows. I don't currently have an evo but you opening a new shop here would help my decision between an NSX and an Evo.

Anyhow I think it would be great to have a shop that is trustworthy and cares about its customers in OC but I think only 2 weeks out of the month will make it hard to run both businesses. Everyone wants YOU to tune there cars. You to do the work. Unless you can produce an offspring of your caliber (in the tuning world)and age him quickly I'd say be cautious.

Oh and yes partnerships never work out so if you do it, than do it yourself.

Reese Tuning
10-24-2010, 07:52 PM
I do not plan on having anyone else tune cars but me. I do have a great staff behind me. Without that it would not be possible. Period. We all work as a team. Without that the shop would not be the same. With that said moving to another location would be doable/ but closing the SD shop is not even possible. Its my home and always will be.

James
