How does this compare to the HJS 309 cat's used in WRC?

02-08-2010, 12:43 PM
The HJS cats are over $600 USD last time I checked. Ours retail for $179. That being said, these are US made cores assembled in the US. Way better than the Chinese made stuff, which is what most people use. Ours are in 304SS housings, not the lower grade 409SS like many other cats are.

If you're really looking for an HJS unit, we'd suggest contacting Billy Boat as he imports them into the US. :)

We have been using the HJC stuff for years and have never had any failures. I agree the chinese stuff is crap, that is why it is not used in motorsport.
Just curious to see how yours compares to the HJC stuff, not the chinese stuff. The 304ss cores we find don't take high anti-lag temperatures.

Being a manufacturer ourselves, names aside, there is still a huge price difference, and i would like to know why? Are you making 10,000 of these at a time? I imagine the qts would be similar to the HJC. Random TECH for example seams to be a direct competitor for yours.

Please don't get me wrong, I am asking as I am interested if they will work or not for our application. As you say, at 595$ a cat before i charge transport, I don't sell a lot, just the cars we build here which is between 3 - 4 a year...

Oh, no worries.

I don't have a lot of experience with anti-lag and our cats. Never had one on a true rally car before. Just Redline Time Attacks and Super Lap battles. However, I know that putting fuel into the exhaust stream will certainly strain the cores.

Also, our cats are rated at about a 600 hp max....after that, there's just too much airflow for them to handle. We have seen some people run a dual cat set-up on high hp cars to combat this.

You're right...Random Tech is a direct competitor...however, their price is higher and they don't offer true 3" and 2.5" cats. You need to swage the ends of 3" pipe for the Random Tech units. I am also not sure if their housings or 304SS or not. They also only market 200 and 300 cell units last time I checked.

LMK is you have other questions :)

more cell = less flow for anyone curious ... :)
Thanks ERIK. The dual cat idea is not bad, run x2 2.5" as opposed to one larger one may work well as well. Separate exhaust line for the wastegate would have other benefits too... hmm, maybe some sort of "x" pipe , or a crossover. Next time I need one, we will give you a shout to try it out!
Thanks!

BTW: Has this been tested, and will not trigger any CEL with the OEM O2 sensor?Â* Or do I need to buy a seperate spacer? I ask because there have been reports that even AMS' 300 cell cat will trigger a CEL without a spacer.

02-17-2010, 07:13 PM
You will probably need a spacer. I know on the Evo 8/9's, you can get rid of the rear 02 CEL, but I don't know if you can do that in the Evo X's.
