View Full Version : How long should IX Clutch last?

I have 78,000 miles on my 2006 IX MR 6-speed. The clutch is slipping and I am having it replaced next week. I am pretty hard on this car, but I don't track it (it saw 2 track days early in its life, long time ago). This seems about right to me. What do you think?

Also, I got 36,000 miles out of a set of full-tread Toyo RA-1s on this car, which is my daily driver. These tires never saw a racetrack. I think that's pretty remarkable. I'm replacing them with NT-05s today. RA-1 are still available but backordered, unfortunately.

That is a very good lifespan for an OEM clutch, be thankful.

RRE is doing the work. I just want an OEM type clutch. It's not a track car.

Yea, RRE is legit also!

You dont have to track your car to get a upgraded clutch.

If you plan on leaving it 100% stock then yea, I can see why you would want another stock clutch.

I'm @ 60k miles on my stock clutch, countless track days on it. Still holding strong. I wonder if you're driving through lots of stop and go traffic. If you go wit the ACT street package @ RRE you should be near stock.. maybe a little more pedal pressure.

Just bought my car and it only lasted 600 miles. It started slipping so bad you can barely drive it. The car has 44,000 miles on it. Waiting to see if the dealership is going to replace it or charge me.

Many track days (~20). Many autox (~40). Stock clutch. No slip. (only about 280 whp). 126,000+ miles.
Completely depends on how the clutch is used.
Learn to heal-n-toe and always rev match. Don't "launch". Don't be rough. Be precise.

Or don't and abuse all you want.. it's just money.

Same shit happened to me! I had the car for a week when it had 11k miles and the clutch was gone. If the dealer doesn't replace it like my dealer take it to a shop like Massimo to get an aftermarket clutch. ACT HDSS FTW!

Also +1 on the NT05s FTW! I fucking love these tires!

Power level doesn't matter if you're a shitty driver. Â*You'll burn through a twin disk or whatever quickly too. Â*The life you got out of the stock clutch sounds good to me- you could have launched it a few hundred times too!

After a heated argument yesterday and pulling a few cards they told me they will pay for the labor and I get the parts. We will see if they actually come through. I will probably have to call them three times a day again

I have a stock vIII, 132k original clutch, it's all about use & abuse -- no slippage, I drive it hard but NO launches,
Smooth is fast as has been mentioned before, these cars are wonderful scalpels not sledge hammers (mustangs etc.). The Evo is very female in the sense that the smooth approach is always more rewarding.

My clutch just started slipping at 67,000 miles. I've launched it a few times and I drive it hard so I'm not really surprised. It slips in high gears on the freeway where the RPMs go up but the car doesn't follow. I'm pretty sure it's not grabbing well in every gear because overall the car just feels slow now so I'm guessing that's the clutch not grabbing. I'm trying to drive it as slow as possible now until I get my 3200 extreme clutch from RRE installed.

I Burned my clutch using launch control at 29,000 miles. The stock clutch just could not handle it. So basically it will lastÂ* a while. It just depends on how hard you drive it. After i melted my clutch I switched to an ACT clutch, now I have no problems at all.

Mine was 5 launches and bolt ons and tune 24psi for 30k... now RRE 3200lb clutch is another 45K and no issues with 20 launches.
