how to remove alternator on evo VIII

I saw in evom a thread about this BUT I heard that you need to remove the axle.

There really is no "easy" way to do it. Remove your right front fender liner and tire and wheel. You need to get at the belt tensioner. Get the belt off. Then you need to remove the support bracket that's attached to the alternator (http://www.thepartsbin.com/autoparts/alternator.html) on top (engine bay) and the bracket is also attached to the lower passenger corner of the intake manifold. Get those lose and then the alternator is held on by one more bolt. Remove that and that should be it! If I were home to look, I could tell you 100%, but this is the best I can do off of memory.

If you have an engine lift, I heard you can also lift the engine out to get to it but otherwise I have heard you have to take the axle off, which was too much for me.Â* It took SCM a full day to do the job when I had it done, so I would assume that it is no joke.Â* Good Luck!!

A shop did it in pico rivera, family friend. He lifted the car and took off engine mount somewhere, dropped the engine just a little bit, enough to get to the alternator. Its a really tight fit though but doable. Wished. I remembered a lot more.

Takes about 1hr-1.5hrs max...

However i don't really think it matters since this thread is almost a year old... lol

anyone have any recommendations on a good high amp replacement? Planning on a 3400watt system and im gonna need some amps to support that shit.
