1st gear whining noise?

It started happening a few days ago... When driving normally on first gear, it starts having this whining noise (A noise similar to as if someone is reversing a car very fast). I don't know what the problem is and any input from you guys could help me out a lot. Also 1st, 2nd, and 3rd feel pretty notchy when putting them into gear (Got the car like this from scm)... I'am going to head over to scm tomorrow to have them check it out. It's a IX GSR with about 57,xxx miles on it at the moment. This is my first evo so any help would be awesome! Thanks. :smitten:

hmmm i had a similar problem but in second and it turned out my 2nd gear synchro was going out

yeah a friend told me it might be my transfer or my 1st gear going out :( But I just wanna hear from everyone else what could be the problem...

I've had the noise since the first day i've had my car, also everybody else i know who has evo's also has it. I forgot if it was the transfer case that makes the noise but i don't think its anything to worry about if we're talking about the same thing; everybody has it

Yeah, I agree with it being normal. You may just be noticing it more because of listening to different music (or none at all) or when the car is cold, etc.. Don't worry about it.

my first gear is always noisy. to make sure, drain your fluid to see if you got silver flakes coming out.

ya its normal lol. mine does it too. if it gets louder in each gear as you accelerate than your tcase is going. try switching to a different fluid like redline mt90 or bg syncro to help the notchiness.

Yeah +1 to it being normal, had that noise since day 1. Only First though.

yeah I was just concerned cause I always had my windows down and all of a sudden i noticed it... it's pretty damn loud now compared to never hearing it before >.

Youtube it so we know what type of noise you are talking about... some whinning are the red light for T-case going bad.

its prolly aftermarket flywheel... aftermarket flywheels tend to get a whinning noise

myn since day 1 only in 1st gear whines on take off then it just goes away

Same here bro my 1st gear whines as well since the first day i bought it n im the original owner my friend has the same thing with his 1st gear .... I was told from 03-05 evos have that whine so dnt worry ur not the only 1 lol ....

I also have first gear whine in my car. First time i changed the transmission oil there was a good amount of metal shavings. I was planning on changing it out to see the difference now. If a transmission is not filled up properly could this promote the noise too? and how do you go about fixing this issue?
