Whats going on? Was just wondering is anyone knows of a shop that is capable of doing a Double Din on the Evo IX. I know its a bitch to do but i am willing to get a quote and take it from there.

I don't mind driving but i'm located in Sherman Oaks (L.A.) Pretty much tired of waiting, people keep saying they are going to re-release the double din kit but no info has every been released. + I can't find one anywhere (except for one and the guy wanted $600 for it LOL)

TIA

There are audio shops capable of doing a double din mod...it'll just depend on how much you want to spend for custom fabrication. And you'll want custom fabrication because from the Orbital kits (when they were available) that I have seen, fitment is an issue. I can refer you to someone nearby if you PM us.

Check out this thread.. I could possibly do this too!

I wonder how it was done. He says it was pretty simple compared to all the other splicing and cutting.

I Would love to Evobros but I don't think its that easy. I've been looking for an Orbital kit but theres none to be found. Unless, you have some insider info for me ;).

I'd like to hear more about your setup.

Hmm not a bad idea, except that for Navi it must be a b*tch to take your eyes off the road. I think I'll stick to trying to relocate it to the top.

Kelvin, Thanks for this. Right before you posted this I went to EvoM and stumbled across the HOW TO article. I am definitely going to take on the project this way.

Just one question once you do all the cutting and situating the backplate to the cubby hole, how hard is it to relocate the HVAC'S Mechanical system.

The how to seems to give the info on making the plate but than leaves off the mechanical part of it. Thanks.

things to keep in mind is to measure multiple time, and test fit it over and over and over after you sand down the sides. i had to cut the lip off of the relocation kit for the ac/defroster buttons (you'll know which lip I'm talking about when you look at the relocation kit)

only difficult part with actually moving the hvac was i had to cut and bend the metal frame behind the dash so that the white arm that moves the cable doesn't rub on anything, there's another how to on doing that. from what i read there was two hvac control unit versions Mitsubishi used, one didn't bind and the other did, either way you would still need to cut a hole in the metal frame for the cables to pass through, the hvac version only tells you whether you have to cut a big hole or a small one

Hmm.. ok thanks again for the reply.

I'm probably going to have a pro do the install and mods necessary to get this up and running... Hope it doesn't cost to much.

Thanks Super, I'll took a look. But, I might just order the standard JDM one and take it from there.

Are they both the same?

orbital is more recessed and jdm is more flush

jdm looks cleaner vs orbital has less glare
