OK I need some help here. I have quite a nasty noise coming from the front end of the car. all signs pointy to the transfer case. The noise is a low tone whine almost like a growl. Thought it might be the transfer case, but I am not sure. ought the car used, kinda questionable history, found that out after I bought it.

Noise starts up at around 40mph and tones down a little around 80
When making a hard right the noise completely goes away.
Changed the oil in the transfer case after I started to hear the problem. Didn't seem like much drained, maybe it was low, and it was a bit gritty. Noise has gotten worse since then.

If anyone has any experience with this and has some time to listen/ drive and gimme an idea on a fix or even what the problem is, I would appreciate it. Or maybe a local shop that could help me out. I live in Lake Forest.

Thanks....

I work in Irvine off Alton/Jeronimo and can meetup in Lake Forest around lunch or after work. I know what a bad t-case sounds like and can take a listen.

Take it into a reputable shop. You're really close to Muellerized... They can tell you what's wrong with it. It will take the guess work out of it. Also if your car has a "shady" past they can go through it and see what other problems you may have.

A lot of Evo's have been launched and "drag raced" ..... Too many moving parts in the drivetrain that get really unhappy when you do that .... They end up dumping the cars to unsuspecting buyers and dealers before they get the repair bill.

Hopefully you're not one of them.

Take it into a reputable shop. You're really close to Muellerized...Â* They can tell you what's wrong with it....

Actually, he did take it to us back in October, John told him it probably wasn't the transfer case and had the customer listen to his own car with the stethescope so he could see what John meant.Â* Everyone else whether on the internet or in person guessed incorrectly that it was the transfer case.Â* We ended up saving the customer from ordering a brand new transfer case when the problem was actually the center differential.Â* Clutch and flywheel were trashed too when we pulled the transmission out, so we managed to sort out a solution for it all within his budget.Â* Way cheaper than buying a new transfer case and having the problem not go away at all.

Thanks for giving us the leeway to work within our schedule to get your Evo properly diagnosed and fixed Justen!
