So I was bored, very bored today. I pulled out my P001 OEM deck to make a boom box for my garage, powered by a computer psu, and couple surround sound speakers I have laying around.
After an hour of working on various things on my evo, I kept hearing commercials and stupid songs…. I remembered why I don’t listen to radio anymore. Have a quick look around for a decent CD, no dice. However, I saw my iPod sitting pretty in a corner. I had tried an aux input quest on this oem deck through the cd-changer port, but I was armed with another idea. "I'm gonna put an aux input in that thing even if I have to destroy it!"

It began, I took it all apart, and with somewhat of an idea from instructable.com on using silent cd and splicing into the LCH and RCH and ACOM traces on the board. I had no idea where these traces were, but decided to take it all apart anyway.
I found it:

It does say on the circuit board, LCH(left) and RCH(right) and ACOM(ground). with VERY small contacts to solder onto.
Things needed :
Fine tip soldering iron, (you can try it with a gigantic tip like I got but be prepared to break traces and repair them)
Solder,
flux,
wires. thinner the better,
discarded headphones or proper jack from radioshack,
steady hand.
I soldered on pretty large wires I had laying around (I didn't have anything thinner), and I ended up breaking a trace. I spent the next hour trying to repair that trace with a strand of wire and a lot of patience. Then I used a headphone jack I had sitting around never used, cut it, soldered it in to those three wires I routed to the back.

As you can see, you don't really HAVE to use silent cd, but it will turn out better if you do.
In theory, this can be done to any headunit that has seperate cd/tape board from the mainboard.
So I love my garage stereo now, with my ipod playing through it.
