ok first of all this isn't going in my evo, it's for my surround sound in my room... i have an old Technics 120v amp that's putting out 60w and on the back it says to use with speakers at least 4 ohms..... i also have a 12 inch box with an old lightning audio sub that blew after like 5 years... on top of that i have a kicker 10" dual voice coil (rated at 250 rms per voice coil) speaker that i've had just as long but has been in my garage... my question is, should i buy a box for the 10" speaker and run it in series, or buy a new 12" and how many ohms.... i'm not sure how many ohms the sub in the box is rated at but i remember that if i turned the volume up too high, the sub would cut out and it would take a bit for it to come back on.. i'm trying to find a happy medium between decent bass and affordability. thanks in advance for your help.

As far as the size it depends how low of a bass tone you want to be able to hit but being that it's for surround sound I go with 10s but most car systems are set to a completely ohmage then cars but theres ways to get around all that it more or less just changes how many watts the speaker runs and I side note you turning your system up too loud and it cutting off is more likely the amps thermal safety cut off than the sub... In all my experience when a sub gives out it's gone and as far as the kicker 10 you can wire it for four ohms but if you wire for two ohms you'll get 120w output but it'll heat up real good

ok, i wasn't sure if running the kicker in series would double or cut the ohms in half, thanks for clarifying that... i guess my next question is would you spend 140 on 2 12" kickers rated at 150rms and have a spare or spend 50 or so on a new 10" box and if the box, ported, sealed, or bandpass for my surround? best buy has the kicker comps on sale at buy one get one free.... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Kicker+-+Comp+12%22+Single-Voice-Coil+4-Ohm+Subwoofer/9892921.p?id=1218190731552&skuId=9892921
i'm thinking of getting the 12"s and have a spare and on top of that get the warranty so if i blow one before the warranty expires i can get a new one and still have a new spare down the road... thanks for your reply O0

Ported box but you gotta figure out how much bass is nessacary depending on the level of mids and high personally I think two 12s is a little much and I think 10s sound better

2 10's is more than enough for your evo. You could even be safe and go with 1 10 that can take alot of wattage. (JL W6 series) If you don't wanna be able to think straight because the bass is ridiculous then go 2 12's.

Regardless evo or not 2 12's in any car (assuming they are good 12's) will rumble the car to where you can't think straight. You're right I didn't notice he said this wasn't for his evo but still good advice .:)
