i am buying a rebuild kit for my evo8 5speed trans and i was wondering if it is worth buying also the evo9 1rst and 5th gears. i do some friendly drags from time to time, and i don't drive long distances. Is the money worth what we get for better result when racing?

thanks

I liked it and when I do my next shep rebuild on my current tranny for the ix, I will do it again. I have not done any drags though, only road racing

seeing your mods I dont see how it would benefit you.... if you use 5th gear during drag racing then I would change the 5th gear only.

I have a evo 9 transmission with evo 8 3-4 gear and I like it a lot!

Get a 411 final drive to gain more road and gear use

i guess changing 5th gear will give me an advantage and keep me in power band especially when dragging with other high speed cars like z06 and others.
but still am not sure about the 1rst gear since i need to change with it the shaft which is an extra cost also!

Who is rebuilding it? I have a 9 1st in my 03. Its nice to be able to go from 1st to third with very little lag. I sent my tranny to Jon at TRE for a stage three rebuild a while back and its still running smooth!

my local shop. but i guess am gonna get the rebuild kit from jack's transmission.
the 1rst geat plus shaft will cost $400+ so i guess the little difference between evo8 and evo9 ratio is not worth it!

If u haul ass in first and make enough power it makes a difference

i was checking the jdm 5th gear ratio, its .825. this will achieve 156 mile/hr at 8000 rpm. i guess its short but it will keep rpm in power band. what advantages or disadvantages u see in this gear ratio, other than cruise will be ruined??
and is it a direct gear to gear swap with evo8 5speed? or we need to change input and output shafts?

If drag racing is your thing then you want a 4.11 final drive. This is about a $1000 option but will allow you to do 130+ in 4th gear. Perfect for drag racing. You do not want to use 5th gear in a drag race.

4th gear going to 130+ is a huge game changer, especially when u race other evos

^^^ oh yeah... not having to switch to 5th makes a huge difference!

yeaÂ* i know. i can do 137 at 8000rpm. but i was trying to avoid paying $1000. there isÂ* difference of approx 13 mile/hr between stock and 4.11 in 4th gear, and i don't do quarter mile runs, but most of the times friendly street racing. plus with longer final drive am afraid to lose some acceleration and spool.
sometimes i use 5th when dragging with z06 and other similar cars , because they believe they have a chance after those speeds.

The higher final drive will put more load on your motor and actually decrease spool time.

yea your right. but i guess response will be less since at same speed , rpm will be lower. but still thinking it over if its worth the money.

THen just go with a 4.56 final drive so you can do 150+ in 4th gear :P

Actually its to early for me lol
I was thinking of mustangs :P

I think buschur and/or AMS use the 3.73 final drive in their drag evos to trap 160mph in 4th.Â* I'm sure there is more to it then just swapping the final drive but still thats pretty cool/

But i do think 4.11 would be perfect for what you want to do with the car. Expensive option but from all the reviews on the 4.11's its well worth it. Check out evoM and you will see how
happy everyone is when they do that swap.
Shifting into 5th gear during a race really hurts your times...

3.73 is a great option for 1/4 guys, 4.11 lets you pretty much use your gears rather then running thru them.
