Hello folks,

I just put the new Redline MT-85 in the Tranny of my 06 MR. This is Redlines new GL-4 Full Synthetic 75/85 Gear oil. It runs about $13.95 per qt.

I have about 100 miles of driving so far and the shifts are very smooth and I am liking this oil allot. Not to mention the cost savings vs. the OEM Diaqueen that runs $100 for 4 qt container when you only need a little over 2 qts to change the fluid.

I will post of more reviews as the miles go on. I am trying to get some Solo II time in soon, as well as some re tuning on the dyno. Will keep everyone posted.

Great Oil, Great Price. Give it a try.

Yeah, before people were mixing stuff to get the MT-90 protection but MTL shifting. So Redline made the MT-85. It is $11 a quart here @ RRE. It is our standard fill for the EVO transmission.

So this stuff is good for the 5 and the 6 speed?

The MT-85 is for the 6spd, but I am sure its suitable for the 5spd. I believe most 5 spd folks use the MT-90 but you can verify that with Mike from a couple of posts up.

I have been using mt-90 for like 5 years now in my 5 speed, I am definitely staying tuned to this thread.

The thicker oils will give more protection. An oil like Redline MTL or BG Syncroshift will shift the best, especially when cold. A few people experience notchy shifting when cold using pure MT-90. So we were and Redline was recommending o mix mostly MT-90 with some MTL. After a while and lots of internets confusion they just decided to make a Mitsuliscious "MT-85".

If you have a big torque EVO and dont get your panties in a bunch if you need to warm up your transmission before beating the crap out of it, continue with MT-90. Otherwise MT-85 should please 95% of the EVO transmissions and owners in So Cal's climate.

EVO transmissions (and their owners) are very individual. Between all the power outputs, intended use, history and levels of abuse... there never will be one oil for everyone.

Hey Im new to this forum stuff but i have a question related to redline fluid. I recently purchase 75w90ns thinking i would be able to replace at least my t-case and rear diff. but i've been reading that some use shockproof. can anyone give more feed back on that?
please and thank you

Yeah the NS stuff isnt the best for either the transfer case or rear diff but will do the job in either.

The cool kids use Heavy Shockproof in the transfer case and non NS 75W/90 in the rear diff.

Heavy weight shock proof for the t-case and 75w90 gear oil for the rear diff :)

Sweet, but you use less than one quart for the transfer case. Or are you stocking up? Two quarts would be maybe 3 changes.

What feed back to you Guys have on the lightweight shockproof? Does that really make a difference?
Apologies for all the questions. I love my Evo and want nothing but the best ^_^

You dont use Lightweight Shockproof in the EVO. Maybe if you lived in Alaska you could use it in the transfercase. None of the Shockproof line works in the EVO transmsisions well. The cool kids use Heavy Shockproof in the transfer case and non NS 75W/90 in the rear diff. MT-85 goes in the transmission. And if you want the best then use Heavy Shockproof in the transfer case and non NS 75W/90 in the rear diff. MT-85 goes in the transmission. But if it was my own car I'd use Heavy Shockproof in the transfer case and non NS 75W/90 in the rear diff and MT-85 in the transmission.

Yup mt85 is the shizzz! I change my fluids every 10k anything after that and ill start to experience minor grinding at high rpms during wot. So stash up!

Mike, what are your thoughts of Shock Proof in the rear diff?

Mike W
04-26-2013, 04:52 PM
Is the best protection. The cool kids use it for big power cars. But you need to use a separate LSD additive. Shockproof does not have LSD grippy/slippy additive in it like 75/90 does. You need to put it in yourself.
