Really Loud Chattering/Knocking Noise.

Does anyone else get a really loud inconsistent chattering/knocking sound while idling?
It sounds like its coming from the top right side of the engine.
I don't know that much about internals or anything but I know its not the injectors ticking.
This noise is almost embarrassing and doesn't sound healthy.Â* :oops:
I could hear it LOUD and clear from my brothers garage when my car was across the street with the hood closed.

Any ideas?Â* :bang:

I think I know what you're talking about. How many miles are on your car? does it sound more like a ticking than a chatter or knock?

Does it go away when you press in the clutch?

@MP... well, if I'm experiencing the same thing he is, then no, it doesn't go away. I noticed mine this morning, I thought it was the semi I was driving next too, but then when I got onto the 2 line road I take to work I could hear it clearly. It would come and go on it's on. Brake, clutch, depressing/releasing gas pedal... I'm not sure.

Massimo... I'm moving back to Cali March 1. Driving from Washington DC, going to need a 30K service and tune up. Could you PM me an estimate please? If problem persists i'll bring it to you to diagnose and find a solution. Thanks.

I have the SST transmission.
I only notice it when my car is at a stop. Its REALLY annoying and loud.
I have 12,000 miles on my car and it sounds like a chatter. Its not a consistent ticking or a knock, it sounds EXACTLY like chattering. Its inconsistent and its coming from the top right corner of the engine I think. I took a screw driver and did the stethoscope test and thats where it sounds like its coming from. :?

Mine does the same. Could be the injectors.

I've had that same exact sound at idle on my '08 X MR for 62,000 miles! But when I step on the gas it sounds as good as sex...
