Hello Folks, I am conducting some research on Oil Viscosities and would like your help.Â* Please disclose what oil weight you use: 30w, 40w, or 50w and just give a breif discription to why you chose that weight.Â* You do not need to specify oil Brand.Â* Just weight.Â* To the "why" did your tuner tell you to use it? Friend? You read about it? Heard about it? etc.Â*

I appreciate all your help and I hope the results will help those in the future.Â*

ThanksÂ* O0

Jeff

10w-30 here. I believe its factory spec, and here in socal the climate doesnt really call for anything different on a stock engine.

10-30 also. Ive done lots of oil analysis over the past 30k miles running both e85 and pump 91. Driving both hard and soft... Mobil1 works great. No real reason to spend more than 25 bucks for a jug at walmart.

Mobil one and 40w is my choice. I like thick oil and i'm sure my bearings too as well.

I have always used 10W-30. It works well and has never made the car feel slugish. I would keep it at a 30 weight because u dont want your oil to be too thick.

By the way the W does not mean weight its Winter.

If your just daily driving you car and live in CA. then you need nothing more or less then what the factory specified in your owners manual.

But if your in a really cold environment then you go to a thinner weight. Really hot environment calls for a thicker weight. And tracking your car calls for a heavier weight like 20-50. The reason is that under track conditions the oil gets so hot that its start to get very thin. You don't want that. The reason for wanting thiner oil in cold weather conditions is that the oil gets thicker as it gets colder.

The first number in an oil weight formula is the viscosity of the oil at a cold start, the second number tells you what the viscosity turns to once the oil is hot and up to temp.

10w40 Amsoil because built 2.0L and I track the car alot hard. 10w30 mobil 1 on your oil cap is meant for bone stock engine with stock power. Don't think its meant for 300-600+whp cars. Just sayin...
