This is a 2011 Evo X. For those who have been paying attention, the stock tune on the 2011 Evo X has changed:

1. The timing map at cruise is slightly more aggressive. Why did Mitsu do this? Better gas mileage. The 2011 Evo X is rated at 17/23 city/hwy whereas the 2010 Evo X is rated at 16/22 city/hwy. The funny thing is that, I have already advanced the cruise timing on 08-10 Evo Xs that I tune. I have been doing that for a while. Most other tuners have probably done the same. It is good to see Mitsu borrowing from the Evo X tuning community.

2. The Fuel map is now richer at WOT. My hunch that Mitsu did this quench the knock on stock 2010 Evo Xs at WOT. On the 2010 Evo X, Mitsu kept the final revision of the 08 Evo X (read leaner) unchanged and Mitsu enabled lean spool. That made the car run leaner than expected and with 25* timing advance by redline no less. That was a recipe for knock. Not a lot of knock, knock nonetheless.

3. The MIVEC maps have changed. The maps are way less aggressive in the high load areas than they used to be. By contrast, the low load areas are slightly more aggressive. I do not know why Mitsu did this, but I suspect it is emissions related.

This 2011 Evo X had the following mods:

Cobb Downpipe
Cobb High flow cat
RRE exhaust
Nisei Intake kit and lower intercooler piping
Tomei upper intercooler piping
Works drop in filter

Because of the above changes (Richer AFR and ultra mild mivec), the car did not set record numbers on the Virtual Dyno. Its best run (out of 3) was 283 hp and 267 lb-ft. Not as bad as the 2008 Evo X, but not as good as the 2010 Evo X either. If I had to rate the stock power output on the Evo X, it would be:

2010 Evo X (best)
2011 Evo X (2nd best)
2008 Evo X (worst)

Furthermore, on this 2011 Evo X the boost seemed to peak lower (21.3 psi) and taper more (13.9 psi) than the others that I have tuned. The stock boost maps are exactly the same as the 2008 and 2010. It could be that the wastegate arm on this Evo is poorly adjusted.

After several WOT 3rd gear pulls, I was able to get the boost to peak at 26 psi and hold at 24 psi all the way to 5200 rpm. After that it tapered to 18.7 psi by redline. The AFR was leaned out from the 10:1 to mid 11.5:1 and tapering to 11:1 by redline.

The car responded admirably to the tune. It gained a maximum of 45 hp and 43 lb-ft of torque. The entire area under the curve improved, with the fattest between 5000 rpm and redline.

I'm trying to find a good deal for the Injen Intake and UCIP that Naji recommended for my X. then i'll schedule for a tune (with Naji). partly for the intake and partly to get better MPG for the car.

Got an intake for a Ralliart then? I'm interested and close to pulling the trigger on an AEM.
