Well, now that I know that my synchro's are off/going bad, it looks like it's time for a rebuild. It's a 5-speed from an 03 gsr with almost 100k miles. I was wondering where other people have taken their trannys for work and other possible options I might have. I've heard of switching to 6-speeds and changing gear ratios and all that and I'm trying to see this as an oppurtunity for upgrade! lol I'm open to anything! I need pricing and all that lame stuff as well.
Thanks! :mitsu:

What is the title of your for sale thread? So many options! Team Rip sounds nice too.

http://www.jackstransmissions.com/ is another option in addition to TRE and Shep. Check prices, options and customer communication between the three to see which best fits your needs.

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I've heard the most about jacks so far. I called your shop first and Lydia answered and told me I'd have to pull the tranny instead of bringing the whole car in.

I have seen stories of peeps trannys going out before 100K miles, how is that happening? It makes me worry mine is next :(

Shep did a good job on my six speed, granted it costed a fucking ton of money but i love it. IF you need your transmission removed I would recommend Massimo Power to take it out. They had mine out in 4 hours and ready to ship to go, plus the work was EXCELLENT, everything was organized for the reinstall and it wasn't pricey at all.

Well, my tranny is still lame...I've been looking into regearing it tho. Does anyone know anything about that? I would like my top speed lower and then all my gears will be quicker ;) and a longer last gear for highway driving if it's even possible.

u will need to go with a 4.11 final drive to achieve that, or if u wanna go crazy pick a 3.73.

I went with Jack's. My trans. seems super good so far dealing with added hp and whatnot. On the website he has all the ratios in a chart with speeds and RPMs so you can see how each works.

I went with Shep. Granted the choice was easier as I was in Ohio at the time. I went with the Evo 9 1st and 5th gears. See below for ratios/speeds.

Stock Ratio 7k RPM Shep 7k RPM
1st Gear 2.928:1 40mph 2.785:1 42mph
2nd Gear 1.95:1 60mph 1.95:1 60mph
3rd Gear 1.407:1 83mph 1.407:1 83mph
4th Gear 1.031:1 113mph 1.031:1 113mph
5th Gear 0.72:1 162mph 0.761:1 153mph
Final Drive 4.529:1

While you have it out, look to have your transfer case redone too. Or at the VERY minimum, replace the shaft seals and O-rings.
