so i took my car in for the 3rd of my lifetime free oil changes and the tech said my transfer case is leaking.
now i know what those drops were when i first got the car but it stopped for a long time, maybe i had a few
drops twice in the 10k miles i've had the evo X.

i need to schedule a time to bring the car in, he said it was a known issue with the 2010's as the o ring is defective.
they aren't allowed to replace that partitself, the fix is an entirely new transfer case (i'm guessing 2011 model) which is 4500.

anyone else have this issue? gonna suck to be w/o my car for a week. i'm currently on call for work so i won't be able
to bring it in for 2 weeks as i live 80 miles from HB Mitsu.

First saw seepage at 3k . Had my t/c replaced at 13k miles. I've heard of people getting the t/c Replaced ~5k. Pretty common I guess.

Mine was literally puking fluid then running on to my exhaust causing all sorts of smoke when i was at a red light. Pulled over towed it to mitsu. Took about a week for them to get the approval to replace the t/c. Now im at 26k. No issues yet.

Replaced mine at HB too. If you get there early enough in the morning, it'll all be done by the evening time. If it isn't a major leak, you should be able to drive it around in short distances until they get the approval.

...it took 1 day?! When was it replaced? recently? It took one week for approval...

The approval takes forever because they are replacing not repairing. It's a few thousand dollars so Mitsu likes to think long and hard about it haha.

Once approved, then it's fast. I went early in the morning and planned to just hang out and watch movies on my laptop but they gave me a day rental. Turned out it wasn't needed because it was finished by around 4PM.

But it all depends on how bad the leak is. Mine wasn't so bad so I was able to drive around in short distances while they were getting it approved.

Had mine replaced for the exact same issue. Seal went out between Transfer Case and Transmission, causing fluid to leak out of the air bleed vent above the Transfer Case.

Mine, however, is a 2008.

Mitsubishi has been occasionally warranting transfer cases for leaks since 1990 in the US. It isn't a specific year issue. It is a what ever goon on the assembly line accidentally over fills, under fills, damages a seal or messes up a clearance or adjustment what ever day of the week issue.

Interesting.

Whats wierd about mine, is that it didn't reveal its ugly self until 30k+ miles. It did happen driving through the desert on a super hot day though (100+). Im not saying it is a heat issue, but its curious...

Mike, in your experience, have you found any glaring flaws in the seal between the TC and Transmission? Or rather, do you have any ideas on how it can be improved?

The seal only gets damaged on the install.
