Hello fellow board members. I have a 2005 Evo 8 GSR. I recently had the Mitsu dealership (Puente Hills) install a brand new stock clutch and flywheel. Let me give a brief background of my car...I'd say it's fairly moddified w/ 379 WHP and 295lbs of torque. The major mods I have is the Buscher GT35R Turbo kit, Buddy club 272 (i/e) cams, turbo back w/ T-pipe, hks intake, 1000cc injector, JDM BOV, Greedy type 2 boost controller on a conservative tune (91 pump gas). I had an Exedy twin disk installed on my car until it crapped out on me due to the retainer ring breaking. Since I plan on selling the car, I opted for the dealer to install a brand new stock clutch and flywheel.

I got the car back a week ago and did the 500 miles break in period (Actually did 700 miles). I decided to test out the clutch, I never launch my car so everything is from a rolling start. Thru all my gears, when I get to 5k rpms my clucth slips. I took it back to the dealership and the mech and service manager told me that since I have a lot of HP which will make it slip. I told him that the clutch is based on torque not HP. He then corrected himself and said HP and Torque combined. I feel like they are giving me the run around, they said they will contact Mitsu Headquarters. My question is, will the brand new stock clutch hold the 295lbs torque that I have? Just want to get your guys opinion...Thank you.

I feel that it's an install error, but the dealer keeps on saying that the car makes too much power and the clutch won't hold. They are going to escalate it to Mitsu Headquarters in Cypress CA. I guess I have to wait and see what Mitsu headquarters says. I talked to Rigo at Costa Mesa Mitsu and other Evo owners and they feel that the stock clutch should hold w/ the torque I have. Also it's not a warrenty issue, I paid for the labor and material, why are they being asses about this?

Stock clutch will hold over 350 ft lbs.

But why would you pay more money to have a dealer install a stock clutch over what an EVO specialist shop would charge you to install you a performance clutch? And just say you wanted a dealer to install it for some reason, why the most universally hated dealer and not the universally loved dealer (SCM/HB)?

And what is PH going to tell MMSA?

PH Service Manager
Ummm, hello? Is this the big phat corporate office? Yes hi, this is the service manager at PH. We put a stock clutch in a tuned EVO with a GT35R that just kilt his clutch. He says it is dead already and it is all your fault. We are perfect and never screw up of course.

MMSA Parts Warranty Hotline:
wah-wha-whawawawa-wha-suck it-wa-wa wa-racer- wahwahwah-launching-wahwahwah-no

PH Service Manager:
But dude says he is an angel and never launched it nevers and just drives his grandma to her glaucoma appointments

MMSA Parts Warranty Hotline:
Bwahahahaha-snort-wahwahwah-wah-hahaha. still no

Of course it is an install or operator error problem. Part defect? No. Maybe just the adjustment was off. Has anyone ever had a good experience @ PH?

Hmm a 35R on a stock clutch, this is a first I heard of. Also, a 35r making 379whp is something else.

Overall, your best bet is to get a performance clutch like Mike said. And maybe get a good tune to make use of that powerful turbo too. lol :P

Bottom line as the others have more or less stated you are shit out of luck. I can't believe you had the fleeting thought that a stock clutch would hold the higher numbers. :uglystupid2: :uglystupid2:

Lesson learned stupidity has a price. O0 O0 O0

No. Years ago, had them do some basic warranty work that they screwed up.Â* Ended up calling Cypress as well w/ no luck.Â*

IMO.Â* The entire service staff as well as the owner management are simply INCOMPETENT'S

Would have been a better choice to have RRE install a simple ACT & be done w/it.Â* (Much better selling point for the future owner knowing a HP clutch was installed). Maybe its not too late. Have them remove the clutch they installed & credit you for some of the diff. Flat bed the EVO 20 minutes south to RRE

Peace,Â* Â* Joe
