I'm excited either way for a better camera, but the external microphone is HUGE for me.Â* The GoPro on the side of the car has a ton of wind noise and you can't completely eliminate it.Â* Now the microphone can go under the hood!Â* Â*O0

Also, the remote control functionality is coming at some point (controlling more than one gopro with the push of a button on your smartphone)

Took it out yesterday, with the microphone under the hood. Really clear sound of the intake/turbo.

Yeah, Post a vid dude. I had this weedend an autocross mountain session, but using a regular camaro mounted with a tripot I had a lot of wind noise and move.

I still debating about if a gopro worth it or not.

Bye

Here's a couple quick 1080p clips of the video I took.Â* Â*They're not long, but you can at least hear how awesome the external mic under the hood is O0. I have an AEM intake... stock turbo, stock BOV

I think the gopro is totally worth it. The image stabilization is great and the external mic is ridiculously cool

What mic are you using? And did you drill into the case to be able to plug it in? Just got mine and am looking to buy the mic for it.

I bought this mic:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EOZUKQ/ref=wms_ohs_product

and I use this housing (that isn't waterproof, with holes in the side):

I love it. For taking audio of the car, it works real well. The audio you hear in the videos i posted above are with that mic.

Put a windcutter on your mic if you're going to put it outside to get rid of all the wind noise.Â* It helps alot.Â* I modified my old go pro hero hd to use an external mic.

Check out my recent vid here.

fast forward to just to after the 5min mark.Â* I forgot to turn the mic on the first half of the day so I just edited some music in there.

I've tried a couple different locations for the mic and found the bottom of the rear window to be the best location to capture the exhaust note with minimal wind noise.Â*

I tried a couple different microphones and the audio-technica atr-3550 seems to be the best one in that price range.

If you're going to use an external mic then i suggest getting a windcutter. It will cut down on the wind noise alot. I got their storm chaser on mine (www.thewindcutter.com).

I'm with you that the wind noise is unbearable, not a lot you can do though. The air becomes very turbulent just past a small 'brick' sticking out in the wind. The first version would have been fine for me if it just had that external mic jack. Although, I do like the little screen on the front better on the 2

baylorar, where under the hood did you mount the microphone? So you ran the wire alongside the fender to the camera attached to the side of the car?

It's been a little while since I did it, but I believe I just duct taped it on the metal part beside where the shock mounts (where those three gold bolts come up into the engine bay). That left the end of the mic overhanging a bit, but taped so it wouldn't flop around at all.

Correct, I ran the wire from the side of the car where the camera was over top of the mirror and into the engine bay.
