After doing months and months of research on Mitsubishi forums I finally chose a clutch that would suit my cars needs and also my driving style. I wanted a clutch that would handle moderate hp and torque and not stray from the stock feel meaning the engagement point. In past cars I’ve owned I never had enough power to really consider upgrading the clutch but friends and co-workers have and from the horror stories I heard I was a bit nervous especially after driving my bosses 996 Twin Turbo Porsche with a 6 puck clutch that scared the bujebus out of me. So after all of the research and by numerous recommendations I took my chances and decided to get the ACT HDSS and ACT Streetlite Flywheel. In most cases you don’t need to upgrade the clutch but I am currently putting out 317whp/343lb trq with basic bolt on’s before the most recent engine upgrades.

The HDSS Clutch is a Heavy Duty Pressure Plate and Performance disc that are made specifically for Street and Race applications for enthusiast that want that stock pedal feel. The ACT Streetlite Flywheel is mainly for street and drag race but also provides improved engine response and acceleration, without compromising daily driveability. Also from what I have been reading many people have said its smart to also upgrade the CMC(Clutch Master Cylinder) with the Evo 9 setup because the stock CMC is plastic and Mistubishi provided a aluminum CMC on the Evo 9.

So after everything was installed I had to wait on getting on the car because there is a 500 mile grace period I had to abide by just for safety reasons. I drove the car to Sema and drove it back home which is about 500+ miles round trip but after the week was done I really got to get on it. At first when the clutch was installed it took some getting used to because the catch point is just a little higher than stock and there is a very slight chatter as the clutch engages but I adjusted easily. The clutch feel over all is very smooth and doesn’t slip at all compared to my stock clutch after 18,000 miles street driving. I’m going to take the car out on the track in a couple of weeks and I will give a better review after a few runs and launches. All in All I would recommend this setup to anyone looking to upgrade your clutch and doesn’t want to brake the bank doing so. I just turned 60k miles on that clutch... with heavy heavy heavy roadracing/autox/spirited driving. Great clutch!
