Just wondering if any of you guys in X's are running Redline's MT-85? Experience? Sorry if this has already been discussed. Dont really use the search function

Quite a few are using Redline MTL with good success since it is a closer viscosity to OEM fluid. I believe that MT-85 will work as well, just might be a little bit notchier compared to the MTL.

In the olden days MTL shifted best with Mitsu transmissions. With the torque an EVO tranny needs to deal with, MTL was a little light. MT-90 gave better protection. But some would have notchy shifting when cold with MT=90. The recommended Mitsubishi mix from Redline was to use 2 MT-90s and one MTL. So Redline made the MT-85 specifically for Mitsubishis. We buy it in 16 gallon drums. If you get a clutch installed or a service done @ RRE you have MT-85 in the transmission.

my trans was pretty notchy and it kind of clunked going into second and 3rd at times, changed my trans fluid at rre with mt-85, its pretty much like butter now :)

It seems to take about 5k miles for an EVO transmission to nicely break in.

I've got about 24k mi on my X now. Definitely better than when it was new. Super smooth when things warm up and when you're driving with some gusto. That said, it still doesn't go into Reverse worth a shit. Never has. Most of the time I've got to rock it forward and then on the roll back it will go into Reverse. Is this common Mike?

Am I the only one with a buzz from the shifter at freeway speeds too?

Sigh this was the first thin :buck2:g I noticed when I got :buck2: my evo I hope this fluid will help in the long run too I experienced the painful notchy feeling everytime I drive and is only at 500 miles

uhh just wondering... is there a certain milage of breaking in for new evo x owners to be able to change fluid? like 1000 miles, 2000, 3000, so on? or would it be better to get it as soon as possible?

Depends on which fluid

Eng Oil - 1000 miles or so just to look for any shavings after break in
All others - at scheduled intervals by manufacturer or before and after track events... if you beat your car..

mt85 is the good stuff run that on the car all day and do not really have to worry if you don't launch like a missle
