Yesterday during my track day at willow springs sst began to cut power and overheat during my third session onthe third lap. The car disengaged the transmission around turn 4 and left me stranded on the hill until it cooled down then I pulled into the pit. Thinking maybe it was because I was not using the paddles to shift (I was in ssport) all the engine braking this mode does may have been the culprit. So during session four after the third lap again same thing happened. When I pulled into the pit there was fluid dripping on the ground behind the front driver wheel. (Not sure if it was sstf or ayd fluid overflow) My friend was running all day long wih the ams cooler no issues although he has the fog light delete and I dont. I think theres more going on than just the fog light delete with the fluid leaking. WTF??? :tickedoff:

If you can Log SST check what the temps are. I haven't had issues with the Trans yet and have been to a couple track days now. But regarding the SST and SSport and not manually shifting could be it cause the car tends to upshift/downshift too much therefore SST temps tend to raise. Not Sure.... But with a cooler you should haven't over heated but then again, I haven't heard any bad with the SSP trans kit not sure about the AMS Kit.

Yeah I have the Zeitronixs external tranny temp gauge, it was reading 254 deg when the shut downs would occur. Normally the gauge reads around 160 with spirited driving up to 200-220 deg. But I think there is something wrong as the fluid leaking could be from the lines coming from filter?
I doubt that the fog light delete would make that big of difference. I jsut think theres something else in play. Too much or too little sstf?
We put in 5.8 quarts + 1/2 quart per the ams instructions. And I had the work done by a evo specialty shop. Same place my friend has his done at and his works perfectly. When my friend pitted after his runs the blowby from the fan was a lot cooler than mine but he doesn't have a gauge so I don't know what his temps were. Would the ayd overflow spill fluid like that?

That is $529.

We do this for $700 installed out the door. Buy local and save the environment and some cash too!

We only do it with the fog light out, no complaints yet from the 14 or so installs for locals.

In an attempt to find the source of the fluid leak I took the wheel fairing out and inspected the cooler lines in and around the filter. I didn't see anything obvious like a loose or split hose. It may be a pinhole leak that got whipped around the wheel well by the tire and pooled up around the swing arm? :-\

Not even sure if its SST fluid that leaking...

Thinking about what is going on...could be that I overfilled the tranny slightly when adding the ams cooler. This would account for the higher tracking tranny temps, leakage, etc. only while pushing hard. I'll have to drain the tranny again (all three bolts and let it set for a while). :-(

Over filling can be just as bad as under filling. how much extra fluid did you add? I couldn't imaging the AMS cooler needing more than a few ounces extra.

I added .5 quart per the AMS directions. However I think I didn't give the fluid enough time to completely drain out. I had to do fill and drain a couple of times because I added a temp gauge in the drain plug for the zeitronics and it leaked after the first go round. So after the second drain, measure, then fill procedure it might have gotten a little more due to residual fluid in the tranny. AMS directions says 5.8 quarts + .5 quarts for the added capacity of the larger cooler. I made sure I put in 6.3 quarts exactly....I wish there was a way to gauge the fluid level other than spending $1500 for SSP billet sump.

I got ya. Yeah its retarded that you can't check the fluid level of the Sst...

Well I did the fog light delete..going to the track this weekend. We'll see how much it makes a difference. Is it possible that the .5 quart overfill got pushed out the tranny breather valve and that is the source of fluid?

That would be my guess. If you still overheat I suggest you do the Rre additional cooler. ams replacement + the rre additional cooler and you should never have an issue again.
I still have the factory cooler + an additional and I didn't overheat on big Willow on 2/4
Good luck this weekend!

UPDATE:

I ordered a case of Pentosin FFL-2 to change the SST tranny fluid out. This time we removed all three drain plugs during the fluid change. Gave it plenty of time to all drain out. Low and behold 8 qts of diaqueen came out! This was obviously the cause of the tranny overheating/ leaking out during hard driving track days and why Harry's AMS cooler worked for him all day during his track day but not mine. Regardless now I have two tranny coolers, an inline filter, and a pump. I dont expect to have any problems ever again with overheating O0

AMS SST cooler is overprice joke. Get it done right and let RRE make you want.
