View Full Version : Lowering Springs

Hey guys! Just wanted to get some advice on what springs people are using for an aggressive looking street setup. Idea would be to close some of that wheel gap and lower the center of gravity a little bit, maybe 1.5 in. Also, is there any point in lowering without adding bigger rims/tires? Thanks in advance!

You might look into Eibach Pro Springs, something like 1.3 front, 1.5 inch rear drop. If my memory serves me correctly, John Mueller of Mullerized Suspensions had told me that to do it "right," the center roll kit from Whiteline was a good add-on to correct the geometry change from lowering the car, if going more than an inch or so. If anyone knows how to turn a corner upright and fast, it is his group.
Of course, the guys are going to likely say, save your coin for what you REALLY want, and that is coilovers! You might drive the stock suspension for a while, then when you "learn" the car's feel, the change to coilovers will be epic....good luck!

Thanks! Haha right, I'll definitely be sure to check it out. If you don't mind me asking, why is it that you don't lower the front and back portions of the car equally?

if you want a functional spring set up look at SWIFT R-SPEC or GTWORX Tarmac spring. Design to handle like you EVO was made for.

Thanks as well! A friend of mine also recommended those SWIFT R-SPECS. Is there an ideal drop height for an aggressive daily driver? I'm still unsure as to what the appropriate height would be. A 1 in. or 1.5 in. seems so insignificant...but any lower and I'm sure I would have to be very cautious over small bumps... :-\

Other than the springs coming as a set with a different drop front and back, I will have to differ to those much more knowledgeable than myself. Â*I'm sure the guys will speak up on this, like "genrec," who mentions another great choice.

What's up man...met you at that one west LA meet a few months back...just an FYI I have the Eibach Pro Kit and they lower the car more like 1.6"F/1.2"R (not the 1.2/1.0 advertised)...I personally love the drop, but after riding on these springs for over a year, it is just too low for crappy LA roads imho...I would go with the Muellerized springs, Swift Sport, or Works springs if I had to do it again...

And definitely get the Whiteline roll center kit as mentioned above if you go with springs...road on springs with and without it and I must say it made a noticable difference in keeping the front planted with less bump steer during hard bumpy cornering...

Personally though, after riding low, I actually want to raise my ride back up cause I am fed up with the stiff ride and constant scraping, so take your time in making a choice...if I make it out to another meet and you don't already have springs, you can scope out my ride and hop in for a ride to see what it feels like on Eibach Pro Kit w/ Whiteline RCK...GL!

I just had the swift pro specs on my X installed and it is a very conservative drop and the ride is smooth. I know in the future I will get coil overs and I love the drop height it is perfect. Not trying to slam my car and having to deal with scraping every where but thats just me.

Yo! For sure, that was the exact insight I needed. Definitely would love to check em out at the next meet. You ever make it to the South Bay meet on Wednesdays?

If you do springs, do keep in mind that the lower you go the worse and worse it will feel and drive when running on stock shocks. Also, the lower you go the faster the stock shock will wear out and blow. This is why most will do a good set of springs (something that actually increases rate) and then swap in some revalved bilsteins.

Because of this, I am deciding between the Muellerized springs on stock shocks and a reasonable CO setup with good valving and proper spring rates front/back.

I'm not a guru on springs but I ran Ebaich Pro's on my X for about a year and they we're great. Gives you a nice drop and aggressive look. They rode really good too.

I heard some bad things about the Eibach and heard pretty good things about the H&R. Truthfully, I think they are both pretty good.

you'll find mixed emotions on almost every lowering spring besides swift sports... at least from my research anyway lol

I've got the H&R Sports with 25mm spacers. I love the drop. About 1.5" drop. I just installed them over the weekend.

Here are some photos I took right after the installation. They've settled a little more since the photos. Seems like they've lowered a tiny bit since then
