I've been searching the threads and maybe I'm blind but I can't find anything on my problem...

I have an 03 VIII GSR and when starting out it clunks pretty bad, more so in reverse. I keep reading about a clunking noise and this I can feel. I've checked the motor mounts and the diff mounts and they seem to be good. If anyone has had this problem or any input on it please help.

I've had it over a year, it didn't do it when I first got it. If I rev it up to about 2500-3k in first I can avoid it at the expense of looking like I'm new to a manual trans...

hmmm, bring it to RRE i think they are kinda close to you. Have them drive it and get an opinion. i would get it fixed soon before something more expensive get forked up.

My thoughts exactly about RRE. Just trying to see if anyone had similar experience first.

Is it just when taking off or in between shifts? One solid clunk or more than one?

I vote for a transmission fluids change required or clutch. I experience that type of things when a new clutch is installed, but something wrong during installation process.

HMatt: it's only when taking off from a stop and it's mutiple clunks/chattering.

As far as my clutch and fluid, had a new clutch and fluid from RRE in January.

Get a good look at your downpipe. Certain brands will hit the lowere tiebars. I would say it could be hitting your ACD, but your car doesn't have that.

:S no clue then ... if you installed ACT, OEM or RRE no name kit you are ok. If RRE did clutch change back January, double check with them... How did you brake-in the clutch?

I'd check all the motor mounts, and bolts to the mounts ensure they are tight.

Check your front motor mount could be loose bolt or the front mount is broken. I have the same problem on my car before and the problem is the front motor mount bolt is loose so i just tighten the bolt up and annoying clunking noise s gone.. hope this help..:)

I just haven't driven it much! I've been slammed at work so I haven't had the time yet.

this sounds identical to what my car does... but i also have a carrier bearing going out on my drive shaft...

do you hear the noise coming from the rear of the car ( because thats where i hear the noises ) only when taking off from a stop, avoided totally when i rev up to 2500+ and slip the clutch quite a bit.

for my car at least it sounds alot like wheel hop but that's almost impossible.

That sound is coming from the Axles having a little play in them.. Mine does the same sometime when I'm turning and taking off it seems like it wants to hop lol. But this is caused by launching hard specially mine on drag radials xxxTq :) thats what I think imo. It's from the axles but I could be wrong if you happen to figure it out please update.
