So I got tuned about 8 months ago made 288whp on a mustang dyno car was 2013 Evo x GSR with drop in filter and test pipe back.

I got tuned today same tuner same dyno but different car 2014 Evo x GSR with Ams intake/ uicp/ licp / inter cooler/ hks short down pipe/ ETS test pipe/ invidia q300 catback. Made 295whp...

Really confused to why I only made 7whp more?

1. Different day meaning different temps, humidity, etc.
2. IIRC the short downpipes don't really give you much of a gain.
3. Different car, not all evos react to mods the same way.
4. You shouldn't be focused on peak horsepower but look at your midrange and generally your powerband as well as how your car feels at the end of the day.

Yeah, you're looking at the numbers all wrong. Post both graphs. You may have only gained 7 peak whp but maybe 30 or so whp later in the powerband, in addition to all the factors boosties said.

This is the only graph I have which one should I ask for?

I mean the dyno graph of your old car, where you made 288whp.

Here's the old one

I can see that your tq curve improved from 3100rpms to 5300rpms, in that range you also gained about 5 to maybe 20wtq.

as far as whp goes you didn't gain that much but there are gains from 5100 to redline. also your midrange (3650-5300) looks buch better than your old tune. Your holding power better up top your new tune and mods.

Like me and jpsevo said, forget about peak hp numbers they're just there for bragging rights. In my opinion your new tune has better usable power and should feel better than the old.

Thanks for the info! He was also saying something about what I gas I used. I filled up on shell and he said costco gas is actually awesome and I'll have less knock. Input?

Why scary?

Because the more ping if I'm correct you'll get from Costco fuel, hopefully I used the correct term, which will get you closers to detonation.

Then what gas should I get?

Shell/Mobil/Chevron/76, I've ran Costco fuel but I didn't go balls out while filled up on it.

I would only fill up with Costco gas if it was the difference between putting that in or pushing your Evo to the next gas station. Other than that, no.

Chevron/ Mobil never done me wrong. I've put Shell a few times too and didn't really notice a diff. from what I usually put so I guess thats good.

But Costco gas, nope, thats like feeding your newborn dirt...if not worse.

I don't see what the big deal is with Costco gas? I've used it a couple times and have not noticed any problems, "loss" of power, or some insanely high amount of knock. While most 91 octane is probably not the same, it still is a 91 octane, is it not? All this Chevron techron crap seems to be more of just a marketing ploy to me. And if you're worried about additives, pretty sure they use those too. Personally, I think how often the gas gets replaced seems to be pretty important, and Costco always tends to be busy.

Then again, I am in no way an expert in this and could be wrong. But... sometimes if I'm not near a Shell, I tend to fill up at Costco.

actually.. costco switched to top tier gas, comparable to shell/76/chevron.. (depending on area) but most of them buy from major brands.

Who needs Costco, Chevron, Shell, Arco, whatever... when you're running e85? :D

But seriously, there are too many variables involved to say why the power gains weren't up to your expectations. And, hot vs. cold weather, humidity, barometer pressure all make a noticeable difference.

Sorry guys, I hate bringing up dead threads but there aren't a ton of posts on this forum, so...

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

List of "Top Tier" gasoline providers. If it's not on the list, don't put it in your tank. Costco is on the list. More than likely Costco buys whatever surplus supply another Top Tier provider has, and then uses that at their stations. In other words, Costco gas will probably be a blend of other Top Tier providers, so nothing wrong with that.

Just noticed that ARCO is on the Top Tier list as well. Damn, the sky is falling...

lol so if ARCO is on there what does that tell you about this list?

Edit: there are worse on the list. this list sucks.

I have heard all fuel comes from about 3 refineries, only difference is the additives. If your car would blow up and detonate on a tank of bad gas, it probably isn't a great tune in my opinion. Stuff goes wrong and being on the ragged edge is running very risky. A bad tank of fuel can come from anywhere as well, no matter the branding.

"But before the oil can fuel your car, it needs to be refined. According to the EIA, most of the country's oil refining (about 41 percent) takes place in Texas and the Gulf states -- which is why gas prices quickly rise whenever there's a hurricane in Louisiana. Another 20 percent takes place in Midwestern states and about 18 percent of America's oil gets refined into gasoline along the East Coast [source: Energy Information Administration (http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pnp_refp_a_ep00_ypr_mbbl_m.htm)]."
