APS cold air intake review.........

Well I called up brainstorm today to see about getting a adapter for my defi guages installed and wile I was there rashaun ( cant spell please forgive) and he showed me the APS coldair intake I was impressed and like the oem quality craftsmanship. I was in a good mood so I burned a whole in my wallet and baught and had it installed.

before I go into how it performed I would just like to say thanks to rashaun and the staff at brainstorm. They new what they were talking about and were real friendly and down to earth. I plan on using them for my EVO aftermarket needs.

Well I started off by warming up the car I took off from the shop and noticed no real big gain in normal driving. I got to a open road and hit the gas and boy was I suprised at the sound I sware the turbo was infront of my face it sucks hard and loud (like a porn star sucking a golf ball threw a garden hose) tssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss and when boost came on it got a tad louder but boy did the car pull like a frieght train from about 4K -7K the car improved drasticly not to many real dead spots. I was verry impressed and happy with my purchase. Oh and if u like the BOV sound this intake will make u realy happy it eckos in the bumper and scares people left and right scared my buddy on the freeway in his Z

All in all this intake is expensive at 450 with replacement resovoir but well worth it and a great fit and great performance.

C'mon, It's not that crazy. Think about it. A normal aftermarket intake is 200-300 and with this particular one you have to replace the spayer resevoir so that's another part they had to produce special. And a shop installed it (little bit of labor). PLUS that intake is the only one sucking air from someplace other than the hot engine bay (i.e. cold air flowing from under the car).

If ya got the extra bones, I say go for it! Nice mod CACalamino would love to see some pics.

You won't need a small battery kit. You WILL need 450 dollars. I honestly made my intake from ABS piping....from Home Depot....for 25 dollars and the price of a filter. Not saying I recomend this on YOUR cars, but there have to be more cost effective solutions.

For your entertainment. The 25 dollar intake good enough for mid 11's

i've read somewhere that cold air intakes for our evos isn't a very good idea if you live in rainy areas...where you can potential run over a mud puddle....haha...*chuck chuck choke* = x

As far as rain goes I asked the same ? and looked at the car on the lift many times in all directions and I dont see how it would realy get to wet mabe a mist from the front bumper hole but if u have a front plate thats not a issue the only other place is the fender lining it has two little vents but they are faced down so water form tires will not get up there I would not worry about it in SOCAL how often do we get monsoons

First of all, if you have a K&N filter, the water clog the filter and the car turns off before you hydrolock, so you just get stuck on the side of the road until you can pull the filter off and shake it out....thats a very good thing...

Second, its not hard to stop your intake from getting water, and a little mist has never hurt an engine...submerging is the danger.

Make sure you use some sort of water bypass valve. A local guy (here in VA) went through a big puddle with no bypass valve and seized up his 500 whp turbo H22 Prelude (I saw it on the dyno - HOLY SHIT). All because he didn't want to spend $20 on the bypass valve. Do yourselves a favor guys!

does this unit come with a hard pipe to the turbo inlet or do you have to purchase that separate as well?

    APS cold air intake review.........

the tube from the turbo to the MAF sesor is stolk the intake starts on the right hand side of the Maf sensor and then goes down in the bumper where the stolk water resovoir was and the black tank on top in the pic is the new water tank for the IC spray.

Any before and after dyno numbers?
Hmmm.. So if I never mod/ track my Evo, I shouldnt own it? Well, my reasons for an Evo purchase dont have to match yours.

-Chirico

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and Im not sure about the former.

-Einstein

I think without tunning the cai really isnt that much more hp but the sound is crazy. Im getting the aps piggyback soon which is pre-tuned for the cai that should show some real hp.

This was the same problem discuss with honda's and acuras and AEM products (using a cold air intake) and they had some problems also with the bypass valve. were it was getting suck in . honestly after seeing so many reviews on cold air vrs short ram . Its not that big of a difference , its more of a preference. IMO if you want a peace of mind on a rainy day dont get a cold air system , you can choose from RMR or Buschur ( im sure there's other companies out there ) Product quality looks great and im sure theres gains to be found on top end ...
