hey fellow evo owners, i just like to know if some of you experience hearing whining noises during braking from a slow speed. is this normal?

    Re: brake noise

yup, we all have brakes that squeak, squeel, whine and make other noises. Performance brakes are not cool unless they make noises.

    Re: brake noise

thanks guys. i cannot really say that it's a squealing noise but more of a whining noise. but anyway, i appreciate you guys clarifying that it's not really a problem.

    Re: brake noise

the only probelm the brakes can have is not stopping the car......and that is obvious when that occurs

and performance brakes arent cool unless they are warm

    squeaky brakes....

ok 1ST OFF ...yes i know they squeak/squeal more than the usual brakes. but...

i went to the dealership thursday for my 20k service. asked them to check everything ...fluids, brakes, suspension, driveshafts, etc. get it back, with fresh oil and they said everything looked good. no problem. well yesterday they were unusually loud when slowing down. theyll squeak from time to time but, not at EVERY stop. diagnosis?

The brakes probably need to be regreased.

are the details in the owners manual or service guide?

    Re: squeaky brakes....

Actually, try rebedding the brakes again to see if the squeal goes away. If not, you will probably have to take off the brake pads and regrease the back of the pads and the contact points. O0

    Re: squeaky brakes....

The dealership is most likely giving you the thumbs up because:
    a. The rotoars are still within spec
    b. When they look, they still see brake material

What you can do is this:

    1. Remove the callipers
    1a. take out the pads
1b. remove the shims from the pads
1c. clean everything off with brake cleaner
1d. apply brake quiet between shims and pads
1e. reassemble (don't forget this last one, it's important!)

    2. Repeat steps, a-c
    2a. replace/machine brake rotoars
    2b. replcae pads
    2c. reassemble

The reason your brakes queel is actually due to vibration. Kind of like you licking your finger, then rubbing it across a glass surface. Remove/reduce/absorb the vibration and you will reduce the noice.

well the squeak is down to normal again now. so i guess ill just watch it closely and if it starts up again ill see if i can work it out either through the bed-in or your ideas blaze.

Use the copper stuff, not hight temp disc brake grease. It worked like a charm for me.

Use anti-seize on all contact points on the back plating. This stuff wont disappear cause its hi-temp. No squeaks for me

the but of course would be that they were squeaking WAY more than normal (for our brembos) even though the dealership said they were fine.

they are fine now ....i dunno what the hell was going on. maybe my car was just pissed at me for something.

    Squeaking brakes

hey.Â* i washed my car last week and i noticed that my breaks squeak once in a while but only under light breaking.Â* i need to wash it again because it's dirty.
i try not to directly spray the rotors and the brembos.

how should i go along with washing my rims...besides removing them?

    Re: Squeaking breaks

i have no clue what the hell your talking about. I spray the balls off my calipers and rotors. What do you do when it rains....not drive your car? It squeeks cause thats normal...for many cars. The squeek also may be cause you didnt break in the pads right
