    Tires for first track day.

Wondering what kind of tires to run. Some high performance street tires or some sort of r compound. I was thinking nt01s or something

    Thanks,

If you have never tracked your car before, then you could get away with whatever it is your using for a daily tire as long as they have plenty of life left in them...There is a thread for first time track days in the motorsports section. If you decide you like track days and do it often then you should invest in a decent set of tires. But at the end of the day it is all personal preference. As far as an R Compound tire goes; they are real good at covering up mistakes, so it is better to learn your lines and entry/exit speeds first and then upgrade as needed. Honestly though, you should be more concerned with your breaks if they are stock...

Thanks for the info man. My tires are done right now so that's why I was asking. I giess the hankook v12s it is. I've been using the stop tech 309 pads and I do tend to go up to the malibu canyons a lot. I really appreciate the quick reply

595 RSR, or RS3s will be perfect. V12's not so much

If you need tires though, you might as well get something better than the V12s. The RS3 is a nice tire and really won't break the bank either.

It's best to learn on the shittiest tires possible (as long as you got good tread left). This will allow you to get to the limit rather quickly, and the breakaway point (limit of traction) is not too high, and is very predictable, unlike a slick where you go from traction to no traction very very quickly once you suprass the tires maximum traction possible in a turn. It takes more skill to save a car slicks and even on RS-3's even though they are a "street" tire.

Shitty all season's tires are much more predictable; however, Yokohama AD08's are pretty predictable with a very slow and predictable break away point. But, these tires cost a pretty coin.

I say get some Federal RSRs. They are cheap and pretty good. They are not the grippiest ultimate extreme summer tire, but they will bee better than V12s. V12s chunk and offer not that great grip in turns. Anything more than 300whp and it would over power them. The problem with shitty tires is that they chunk or they can't handle the speeds or have super soft sidewall. You want a tire that makes A TON of noise so you can hear and feel the limit much more easily than say a R Comp.

I agree with John, I say shitty/decent all seasons. You want something that makes a ton of noise (to hear it through your helmet).
I LOVE my RSR's, but they are too quite for a beginner, as they only start making noise as you approach the limit (instead of talking to you the whole time). Once you get the hang of it, you start to feel it in the drivetrain, and can move to something a bit better. I know it sounds funny, but for a beginner tire I really liked the 595SS, less chunking than most other all seasons, cheap as hell, and still a good shoulder patch (their weak point IMO is the squirmy center patch, but you want that in the begining).

Whatever is on your car is fine,if your hitting it hard enough your brakes will give out before your tires

Shitty tires are best for your first few days. Awesome tires can mask bad driving habits. Shitty tires will amplify them. Learn to drive fast on shitty tires and you will be lightening on good tires.
