Decisions: 52" LCD HDTV with OR without 120hz???

Not sure if there is a thread on this or not but here goes. I'm in the market for a new LCD HDTV set.Â* 120hz is the latest tech right now and I'm kinda on the fence about whether to get a tv with this feature or without.Â* 120hz refresh rates eliminate motion blur that the common hdtv's have and makes the picture so clear but at the same time almost makes Blu Ray movies look fake.Â* If you've seen it you know what I'm talking about.Â* It almost takes away from the movie experience.Â* On one hand, I can save some cash and get the same old movie experience but just a little clearer or spend a little more to get the 120hz refresh rate that I'm not even sure I like.Â* My buddies hate it and say they'd never buy one with 120hz, but would I not be taking advantage of all that Blu Ray has to offer if I didn't get 120hz?Â* :-\ What is your opinion on 120hz?

get the 120hz... might as well... plus for watching movies... plasma is the best with colors. So if you're going lcd, go with 120

get it with the 120mhz, you can always turn it off, besides BD movies will soon start taking advantage of the 120mhz tech and the movies will look much better

i got a samsung 46" 550 series (LN46A550). its not 120hz but im totally satisfied with it. i have seen blueray movies on 120hz and i didnt like it much. but it'll look great if you're watching sports in hd. i personally chose not to get it and save the extra money to buy a PS3. haha. plus, i wouldnt be watching much sports on it anyways since theyre's a 60" tv downstairs...

another thing to keep in mind is the contrast ratio and the resolution (depending on what you'll use it for)

i would pick up the 120hz if the price is right.
are you going to be playing games on it? thats where the 120hz shines i think...

Get it calibrated and it wont look so "fake" as you're stating it does.

If you use the standard default settings and just hook up everything out of the box, yeah it will just look like Bright colors and clear image to look nice. However, get it calibrated and your colors wont look so fake, dimensional perspective will look a lot better and sound will be up to par with the video :D

120hz is good if you watch a lota sports. If you planning to watch movies and stuff, it'll make you kinda dizzy.

+1 on the calibration. Don't just get some Geek squad or anyone else to calibrate it, but find a real calibration expert. Search some online forums and hometheater gurus.

My brother had his 60" Kuro plasma calibrated and it is a very clear difference in reality, color and clarity. He reviews products and different devices for different forums and the like. 120hz is the way to go, and calibration will really help it shine.

you can buy the most expensive tv and it will look like crap compared to a finely calibrated middle class unit. Most of the factory settings are too hot and not set up for your room or your inputs.

    GL with you decision.

dint mean to burst your bubble may i add that there is 240 hz refresh rates already on select tv's .... i would sticl to the one with the 120 since its more cheapear similar size tv's that have the 240 refresh rate is almost double the price...

and as a personal preference on tv's sony always does wonders for me... i would love to try out the new oled tv's but they are expensive as platinum hahha.... really thin and nice design dont have much experience on this technology since its relatively new (jere in the us.)

!20 Hz if def worth it. Last year i bought a tv without it to save money since i thought it was all marketing. It was fine but during football games or fast moving scenes like explosions, it gets a little blurry I took it back got the 120hz model and problem solved.

Samsungs are the best to go with --- Any size 550, 630(120hz), 650(120hz)
    You cant lose..

Make sure you buy an A series though, The B series TV do not come with the ability to custom adjust the "colorspace" which is where you calibrate the colors..

Custom calibration settings for most LCD tv's can be found here: http://www.avsforum.com/

    along with reviews

My Samsung always runs with the (motion-plus) OFF -- It's so crazy looking and unnatural when its on.. Very noticable

The Samsungs featuring (motion Plus) need to have the feature off to get the correct "pull-down" rate anyways, the 120HZ Samsungs do not revert back to 60HZ at any point, its not possible

I have a 120hz samsung 55" and I can't stand 120hz mode. I turned it off. Many people complain about the "fake" soap opera appearance and it's completely true. If there isn't a big price differential, just go for it, but not because of 120hz. More likely because it'll be a better unit overall.
