    [Super Official] True EVO smog stories

    This topic has come up from time to time. I think there should be an official thread about exactly what passes and what does not pass on EVOs. Please stay on topic and only discuss what you had on your car at the time of passing or failure.

    For example, For my last smog, I brought my car back to stock except for my HKS 264/272 cams and a K&N filter. Car passed with no problems.

    I am curious also to if a RRE HFC will pass. I had a TP with a cat shroud and went to a HFC to be more "legal" but now I wonder if that was worth it if the RRE HFC will also fail...

    did you retune for the cams? i was thinking about putting mild (264 in/out) cams but didnt want to worry about the smog

    The car was flashed back to stock for the tune. I would say that it was not running perfectly but it did not pose a problem.

    Took my car fully modified to a dirty smog shop, paid $150. Passed. Continued to pollute the environment.

    Have an 03 that was due last year...passed w/ bolt on's minus cams tuned on e85. Put on the cat and went to a test only smog station and passed w/out a problem.

    272's, 880cc injectors, lower intercooler pipe, cat back and down pipe with stock cat. passed no problem. Just make sure the stock intake box is on, and all the vacuum hoses are still in the same spot.

    Haha I was hoping to just get it done this way. Where's the dirty smog shop though?

    I am about to go in for smog.Â* Probably next week.Â* I am wondering, is it true at all that if I run 100 octane it would make it easier to pass?Â* Is that a myth?

    Also, should I waste my time using the additaves they sell at Vato Zone and Pepi Boys which claim to help you pass or your money back?

    My mods are:
    JDM IX MR 20G Turbo
    Forge WGA
    RRE O2 housing
    RRE DP
    RRE HFC
    RRE Stealth Exhaust
    HKS 264/272 cams
    Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
    Denso 660cc injectors
    K&N drop in filter
    RRE hidden MBC
    Dr. Scot Gray magic tune
    and the other thing I am kind of stressing on besides this is that I have an STRi Boost Gauge and HKS TT.

    I don't know why getting smog stresses me out so much.Â* I used to have an SE-R with an SR20 in it and I had to pay to have someone illegally smog it.Â* However, now I really just want to be able to roll in there and roll out.Â* Even when I had my last 2 cars, both civics, I was sweating every smog check.Â* I feel like it is like taxes.

    Please tell me what you think.Â* I want to try to pass with the HFC before putting the stock cat back on.Â* I am going to go to this really shitty smog station by my house, so I doubt the guy will be up on the difference in looks between a HFC and a stock cat, so I want to see if it will pass the sniffer.

    I can tell you now, the HFC and the WGA are probably going to be an instant fail. ONLY stock cats or equivalent are allowed. let us know how it goes though.

    Why would the WGA fail? The turbo won't even spool during the test and the WGA looks stock to anyone who does not know the exact look of the stock one (i.e. the taper of the stock one vs. the fuller body on the Forge). They are even the same color and finish.

    MAybe there are some VIII owners with the RRE HFC or DSM people with it that have smogged it. From my understanding it should pass the sniffer.

    If your tune is legit, you should be good on the sniffer test. But I don't know how anal they're during visual to make sure the HFC is the "stock cat".

    I think it is going to pass. I have been reading up and I am ready to go in with no additives but with my car nice and hot.
    I am looking for someone to post up that has smogged an RRE HFC. I read that the Works one passes but the Buscher one fails but the only passes for the RRE HFC are from DSM stuff.

    Why are you getting another one done so soon for? From you first post you shouldn't be due for another 2 years. I'm confused!!!

    I have almost the EXACT same mods you have save for a couple of small differences. Put your STOCK cat on and you will pass ZERO problems. I DID NOT have mine flashed back to stock either. I would think it would run MUCH worse in that condition.

    Go forth without fear you have nothing to worry about.

    Otownfla passed with 272's FWIW with about the same mods also.
