Re: EVO Specific Track Day Check List [for obsessive peoples].

I do not know what it is about the rain on So. Cal. that makes everything go nuts on the freeways BUT today, I got a nice star crack (no bigger than an inch in each direction) on my windshield in the rain. Friday, I am planning to drive up to Palmdale for a weekend in HPDE NASA at Big Willow.
    1. will my car pass tech with a star crack?
    2. is it possible that the mad Gs I will be pulling on the track wreak havoc on this crack?

    AND

    Should I:

    a) hit up Vato Zone for some fit it glue stuff
    or
    B) get a new windshield tomorrow or Friday??

    AND LAST
    (BONUS ROUND)

A glass guy I talked to (of course) was trying to talk me in to aftermarket glass that he claims is "thicker." That sounds like "heavier" to me. I really want OEM. Does this matter at all??

Tell me what you guys think. I work tonight until later, so I won't be able to deal with this until tomorrow at lunch or Friday.

    THANK YOU!!!!!

Hit up Prime8 here on the boards, he works for a automotive window company I believe :) I've had a 1" crack at the very bottom of the windshield on my car a couple years without issue.

I say be on the safe side and fix it. Â*At big willow there is a dip at T9 apex. Â*That dip could make the crack even bigger. Â*Now imagine hitting that dip 20-30 times that day. Â*Not worth the risk. Â*At least patch it up or something if you can't replace it in time. I dont think its the G-forces that makes cracks bigger. Â*Its the bump and shocks the car/chassis goes through at bumpy ass tracks. Â*Hitting berms also don't help it either.

    1) You may or may not pass tech.
    2) Not G forces, but the dips/bumps/kerbs of the track.

Just get oem one. Â*Drive around and find a dip/pothole in the road and see what happens when you hit it. Â*That should give you an idea what it will be like at the track.

James, if your windshield crack is pretty minor looking, you will pass tech.Â* Even if the crack has spread a little youll still pass tech.Â* They will just tell you to get it fixed before your next event.Â* If youre planning on replacing the windshield and you dont have much time before the Big Willow event, dont worry about it and get it replaced after the event.Â* But yeah, the crack will most likely spread during the event due to Gs, and the hot/cold transition of weather.Â* Simply trying to wipe down your windshield will spread it also.Â* But thats why i asked if youre planning on replacing it.Â* Because if you are, dont stress over it when the crack starts spreading.Â* Just be careful to not apply too much stress around the crack area if you wipe down your windshield.

Thanks Ed. I will just wait to replace it until after the event.
I might put some of the BS windshield glue on there for the event.

snacks and liquids are definitely imperative.
I have done 2 track weekends now and I have to say, this list is overkill but I never need anything!!
