Has anyone have taken this course?
Is it worth it?
Does it add to your driving experience and driving technique?

A couple of SCE members attended this event IRRC ~1-2 years ago and wrote a review writeup on it.
Hopefully it's still around.

but it honestly depends on what you know already. I think it would be a great start if you are really going to track your car. I know it's quite a bit of money to go to it and if I had the opportunity, meaning time and money, I would definitely do it. I did the Bob Bondurant School in Phoenix a couple of years ago. I enjoyed but if anything, just go for the experience if you can.
Wasn't mitsu doing this then taking vins of cars who attended & voiding warranties?
If smeone can help me find this. I was not able to.Originally Posted by ebevo

Blaze, Evoneil and I think Drmosh went to this a couple years back...or something like this.
could be wrong though
I think you drive Jim Russell's cars, not yours.... So, that's why the price isn't cheap since you're beating on someone else's car.

I'd love to hear someone's experience with this as well, been thinking about it for awhile now.

i read it too, I really wish i could have that extra cash to spend on one day.Â* :'( sadly i think that amount of money could go to suspension. im tired of being stock suspension.
AND its an 8 hour drive for me...
Check out this site for you Rally Enthusiasts!!! Its amazing. Could be better with more members and help <br />http://www.dirtyevo.com/index.php?referrerid=291<br /><br />
Based on what they said, the training will make you bring out the stock setup to its limit.
Would it be worth going than getting a suspension setup?

I was thinking about this school as well but decided the cash up front wasn't worth it. I know attending other schools you have the wear and tear on your own vehicle but since I'm tuned and have the extra power I want to attend one in my car so I can find it's limits. You can go back and forth on the cost issue of tires and gas and general maintenance but I think if your car is setup with more power it's better to roll your own ride. Speaking of, the BMW cca la chapter is having a school June tenth. Might be something to think about as the class is cheaper.
Any driving school is worth it weather it's their car or your own. It will make you a better driver all around even if you never set foot on a race track ever again.
You can always go the route I would choose....hire out Muellerized for the day at a local track. It is well worth it and you get some great instruction and one on one time behind the wheel. O0
Im pretty new to motorsports, but i have some experience so i think i can help a little.Â* I started racing in 2009, and what ive learned over the last 2 years has been amazing to say the least.Â* I dont have personal experience with this school, but here are a few things i can say.Â* Â*
Is this school worth it?Â* Know that its a difficult question to answer because its subjective.Â* You may love it, while someone else doesnt care much for it.Â* Having said that, i will say that the more HPDEs you do, the more your perspective will change about everything.Â* One of the factors that you will eventually realize is...driver education is probably the most important factor.Â* And there are many schools out there that can help you.Â* But if you go into them with a know it all attitude, you will not get anything out of them.Â* If you want to take a school to learn something, then go into it with a positive attitude.Â* No matter how basic something may seem, ask questions and stay engaged.Â*
Beyond all the different types of schools, id recommend that you look around for coaching, but dont limit yourself to the Evo community...broaden your horizons.Â* And get yourself a DAS if you want to learn more.Â* Dont bother buying something expensive, like an AIM, if youre going to do a few HPDEs every now and then because youll spend 2-3k to get it and you will never really use it to your benefit.Â* A cost effective DAS ive used is the Performance box:
You can find them used starting around $200-300.Â* If you get serious at some point and want something better, you can always sell it.Â* And if you decide to keep it you wont be out that much money.
Besides what Ed said, is I took Ed and Robert Honda's advice and enrolled in NASA HPDE1. My goal is to do 2 full weekends in HPDE1 even though it is overkill. I want to get an in car instructor in my car until I start feeling that I do not want them in the car. Then, I want to do 2 weekends in HPDE2, then see where it goes from there. If you want to come hang out with me, I am running NASA. I will have a track box prepped with RRE that will have some odds and ends that are EVO specific (clamps, pads, fluids and etc...).
Also, I really wish my car was bone stock after the first weekend. After my first session, I cranked my boost down from around 24psi to 20psi just do have a bit less boost but my I bought my car modded, so I did not get the chance to run my car at stock HP and then up the HP in relation to my skills.
I am also running tanabe springs/whiteline swaybar + bushings but with stock wheels and brakes. My tires are DZ101s, so I did start to clearly feel the limit of my tires during my first weekend. However, at around 320hp, I feel like my hp outmatches my tires and even my suspension and brakes, whereas I would hope that at stock, there would be a bit more of a balance. However, as I said, I can't know this because I never got the chance to run my car at stock levels.
The reason I am saying this, is because I HIGHLY recommend doing some HPDE weekends STOCK where you have instructors IN CAR as part of the price. I run NASA but from my understanding SCCA, Speedventures and ExtremeSpeed all offer similar HPDE classes for beginners. This will necessarily change your attitude towards mods and your overall goals for your car.
If you want to hang at any of these NASA events, hit me up. I will be at the one coming up at Big Willow on the 21st and 22nd.
