Something I learned from Keith Code's Superbike School is that the brakes are there for a reason. An engine is an engine no matter how you look at it. Using the engine to slow down often is putting unecessary stress on it. I'd rather replace 50 sets of brake pads than 1 engine. They're generally more expensive.

To be more constructive to the thread, I have downshifted in my Ralliart from 2nd to 1st at lower speeds many of times and it seems safe. No strange noises were emitted from the engine compartment.

If it's under warranty... FUCK IT! downshift that bitch into 1st at 70 if it'll let you!

Serisously though, mitsu programmed the trans computer, right? You haven't noticed that it won't let you downshift sometimes? It does this because it knows if you did, your rpm would be over the rev limit and/or safe operation of the transmission. So to refer to my previous statement, if it lets you do it, then it should be fine.

BWAHAHAHA! I wouldn't drive up there with my INGS bumper. Too low and I never felt like going get the "ramps" out of the grass...

Its called rev match, what the other guy said, I push my car alot its an mr as well,
You only build stress if you don't rev match correctly in an manual trans, if U rev high and drop gear and it pulls you back like braking you didn't rev match, but sst is amazing specially in ssport when your really going at it, I'm not a fan on the fully auto and don't trust it, I I'm always on the paddles when I run it. Gears bounce back and forth alot when constant cornering and speeds in fully auto.

In my manual 240Sx when coming out of a fast straight into a sharp turn I press clutch, brake, and at the same time with my heel press gas rev match it into the turn and exit at your best power band

Best is let the transmission do the shift for you. The more you shift to first. The more strain on the sst. I just baby my trans. See to many guys complaining about problems. The more you abuse, the more problems. I have 20,000 mi. On my sst. Just had the trans. Oil changed. Quiet and shifts smooth. No mods yet. Holding on to the warranty. Hope I will not have any major problems. I really like my sst.

From 2and to 1st . Just let the transmission do it self. Once you go from 2and to 1st. You put more strain on the sst. If you don't mind the abuse. Go for it. You are just slowly reducing the life of the transmission.

I've done this every once in a while with no issues at all. I drive a 08 with 85k and trans still feels good as new.
