    The end of an Evolution

I found this article posted here

I’ve just spent an engaging half-hour in the company of Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi’s global product director.

Mostly we talked about the new Global Small Concept, which will be built in Thailand and sized somewhere between a Toyota Aygo and the Colt supermini. It’ll go on UK sale in 2012, effectively replacing the Colt in the line-up.

    Lancer Evo X
But also he told me some news, which seemed to surprise a few Mitsubishi Europe bods as much as it did me.

The Lancer Evolution X, Eusegi told me, will be the last Evo. “There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up.

“Our influence now is EV technology,” Eusegi said, adding that the decision was a “policy change”.

It seems Mitsubishi, which is going to introduce eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015, has decided its image is about lowering CO2, not making lurid replicas of rally cars that don’t go top-level rallying any more.

Eusegi said that customers would find it “easier to understand” what Mitsubishi was about if it was no longer in this motorsport-inspired market.

He seemed to put the rumoured diesel hybrid Evo replacement to bed, too. So the X will be the last Evolution model? “Yes. Maybe the world can change, and maybe someday we can do a motor race by electric vehicles,” said Eusegi. “Maybe then we can enter the market again.”

Until then, prepare yourselves for the end of an era.

RETURNING OF THE MONSTER MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION WILL EXIST!

Despite the fact that Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi’s global product director announced recently that the 10th generation of Lancer Evolution will as well be the last one, so Mitsubishi can concentrate on electric vehicles or other fuel-efficient vehicles, due to lots of negative feedbacks from the enthusiasts, it seems that they changed their mind, Mitsubishi’s President and CEO Osamu Masuko announcing that the Lancer Evolution will be continued.
He said that “Production of the current Lancer Evolution X continues as planned,”. *“As for its successor, regulations and market feedback will dictate its engineering package and architecture.”
“As the market’s needs and demands change, Mitsubishi is considering not advancing the Lancer Evolution concept in the same way as before, but to find a different direction for the Lancer Evolution model to evolve.”
So, what would it be all about?
Rumors are saying about a future hybrid EVO XI, an electric-diesel hybrid being also in mind of the enthusiasts. The car should be able to go from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds and will have a better fuel economy that previous generations.
But nothing is for sure at the moment, Masuko ending his interview for Autocar saying that ”The new direction, the technologies involved, and corresponding products will be disclosed in due course.”.

Re: The end of an Evolution

I would like to have a 4g63 evo back with the older body style, as much as I love the X it doesn't look Lancer Evo to me.
And the new concepts are just god awful, Mitsu has lost their mind with some of the designs.
