    Steering or Cornering skid

How is this properly corrected? I happened to me, I panicked and doing so jerked the wheel to correct it but the car swung to the opposite direction and spun No I wasn't racing, and I didn't hit anyone/anything. But I did feel like Rain sux, that feeling when the car skids is a trip out. Im not a track or road race guy, I've been wanting to enter an event just to learn and be a better driver. But how is it properly corrected?

Hmm, for me, when I take a hard turn and begin to skid, I let it slide a bit till it catch traction again, then I counter steer to correct. There are times where I counter steer as it was sliding and it would catch traction i'll be fish tailing a few time jerking my steering left and right to prevent a total spin out.

let off the throttle, and let the tires gain traction again.Â* go ahead and counter-steer to point the nose to the direction you want to go and once u gain traction again press the throttle... and move on with your life and drive off like a boss O0

if you're oversteering, countersteer and downshift to 1st/2nd and keep lightly on the gas poiting wheel to the direction you wanna end up on (all one quick move) and keep gassing until you regain control or at least thats how i do it when im powersliding/ trying to drift in the rain O0

99% of people will not remember/think about having to downshift when their car is out of control turd. Most of the time the car has spun out and stopped before the driver has time to react. Its not something you can simply explain Chino, it takes practice for it to come naturally just like anything else. If its a low speed oversteer with minimal angle you can just left off the gas, but if you're moving at a pretty good rate and you got a lot of angle going you're going to need to add throttle and counter steer as well. If you're sideways the worst things you can do is let off of throttle OR jerk the wheel really hard OR hit the brakes.

haha!! you still remember that?!?! and you weren't even there -__-

but my screw up was bald tires and I honestly didn't do anything besides hit the brakes. I let the car take me for a spin. I was going somewhat slow enough although I was thinking that I would have hit the rocks since it seemed like I was going to

Here are some "textbook" answers from Team O'Neil Rally School. The last recommendation they give is to practice oversteer in a safe place. I went to Team O'Neil "after" I attended Bondurant School of High Performance Driving which was all on tarmac. Most of the class didn't encounter oversteer situations enough to become really proficient at correcting oversteer as evidenced by all the students spinning out.

It wasn't until attending Team O'Neil (snow and gravel) where we were inducing oversteer and correcting it almost every turn (by design). The repetition has made me a much better driver on tarmac.

Here's a pretty cool video with Colin McRae explaining and demonstrating "understeer and oversteer".

Human nature when the car begins to rotate is to let off the accelerator. Lifting off the accelerator allows the rear of the car to continue rotating around on you. As many have already stated, the accelerator is your friend. Especially in an AWD vehicle.

At Team O'Neil that is one of the first things they beat out of you in FWD and AWD vehicles is to NOT lift. The front wheels spinning in the direction you are steering is your best friend. During some of the drills guys would instinctively "lift" and the instructors would laugh and say "HE'S A LIFTER"...and would give them a pink Protec helmet to wear.

yes ive learned too many times that your instinct is against the AWD nature of how the car reacts. GAS gently thru it! brakes will kill you when you're sideways and you lock all 4 tires you're gonna be asking for it! It is hard to "react" quick enough and to downshift feather gas etc, but beating instinct isn't easy.. I guess practice makes perfect! O0
