Aside the tails and front bumper, those can be swapped. The ACD button does hint it's a IX.
    True...
UNLESS!!!! It's been Frankensteined... OP, any pics of the engine bay?

i will post pics of engine bay, more of acd button, tail lights, and bumpers. I am test driving it today... what should i look for?

Yes 05 VIII's all came with ACD.

Silver steering wheel = VIII (IX's are black.)
Silver dash trim = VIII (IX's are cf)

The interior appears to be from a IX, but it does have a sunroof, so it could just be the ssl package. If it was a IX, I don't think anyone would have swapped the steering wheel and dash pieces from an VIII into it. Doesn't make any sense.

I would smash on it to see if the engine feels good and the tranny doesn't grind

i really like it... the problems: exterior what not perfect. ebrake was not strong at all. front bumper was scraped up and not strong.

what i did like... strong clutch, engine, transmision, turbo, and almost perfect interior. 48,xxx miles

I want to know what you guys you pay for it.

If the front bumper does not feel strong, it may not have a reinforcement behind it. Might have been in a crash and they just got a 9 bumper cover and hung it on.

With the various rash and definitely an EVO 8 that puts it more like 18k or less. Even an EVO 9 in that condition and mileage would be more like $22k-$23k max.

Look deep for signs of accident damage and prior mods and put back to stock. Have someone that has been where you are going crawl all over it.

I wouldn't pay more than $16,500 for a beater/fixer upper. Even if the internals feel good NOW, you stated the rest of the car needs work, plus the E brake is soft that means it needs new brakes or the system has issues. Have you ever had a Evo before? The reason i ask is because a Evo that has engine problems FEELS good to someone thats not use to the power of the car. Â*
Dude, dude i know what your thinking, but the ass on the X is so fat i just had to get her.

ive never owned an evo, but i have test driven about 10 of them (X, IX, and VIII) and many STIs.

Im going to bring my mechanic with me when if i go to get. have him check it out and do a compression test.

i played around with bumper a little bit, not connected to the clips... i think it was in an accident the front mount would have been damaged or "Newer". this one looks like it had about 40k miles of use. (Some rock, normal wear). i also crawled under to check out the bottom... appeared to be good, but im not a mechanic, so ill bring a mechanic to check it out.

Re: Does anyone recognize this evo?

i wanted an evo for the past 3 years, so i have been looking around a lot... im pretty serious now. i have seen cleaner evos then this one, but i have seen destroyed ones also. It is between an VIII/IX and X. the older ones are more power so im probably going to try to pick this thing up for cheap

if i buy this thing i will definitely be at RRE to get some parts, but how do i tell if it is tuned. i know it has exhaust and intake, but is there a way to tell if its tuned?

You get someone with a Tactrix cable who knows how to use it to download what is in the ECU and have a look at it and see if it is stock or modified. Nothing that you can see externally.

Re: Does anyone recognize this evo?

It appears to have a jdm-style exhaust. Or an exhaust that has been cut down to fit a jdm bumper. If it has been cut down, then it's probalby a no-brainer that someone put it back to stock to sell it.

However... Ususally when people do such things, they put the stock air boxes and exhaust back on since those are pretty easy to sell. Kinda wierd that it has the cone filter on it.

On a side note, somebody detailed the FUCK out of that engine bay.
