Only way I'd get rid of my Evo is if I'm able to afford a GTR or a Porsche GT3 LOOOOL.

the new GT3 is already a twin clutch 7 speed auto too. Porsche went away with the manual for good.

At least for their fastest cars that ooze hp. On the bright side, they still offer it on the Boxster, Cayman and 911 Carrera though, which I think are regarded as their fun cars. Not that the higher-end ones aren't "fun," but at that point, they figure that their clientele who shops for those models probably prioritizes all-out speed.

yeah my bad. Porsche's target market for that doesn't look for a manual anymore, at least, not in this day and age.

if money was no object, I'd start a project of infusing a N/A 911 carrera engine and shoehorn that into a Cayman. I read somewhere that it's been done already. I can imagine the much newer, more powerful NA engine on the 911 would make it a much better car.

I think it's been done. I get why Porsche does it, but it's just a shame, and an old Top Gear review explained it well, where Jeremy Clarkson said he likes the car but totally hates the fact that he knows he is driving a car that was purposely restrained and not the best it could have been.

As much as it sucks that neither the Boxster S nor the Cayman S get the full-bore 350 hp 3.4-liter that the base 911 Carrera has (or even the 400 hp 3.8-liter in the Carrera S), it's still REALLY quick. I think both of them get to 60 in 4.2 seconds (give or take) and are consistently hitting around 12.7 in the quarter. So it's not exactly disappointing, though again, it could be far more satisfying if they didn't pinch off the last several ponies for the sake of making the Cayman better than the Boxster, and to a higher degree, the 911 better than the Cayman.

But at the same time, they're not the only ones guilty of it. AMG's 6.2-liter, for the most part (and not counting what's under the hood of the SLS since that one has more unique internals), varies from 451 hp in the base C63 to 525 hp in the now defunct CL63/S63 (as they now get the twin-turbo V-8). Pretty big spread, and I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the least expensive model (which happens to be their lightest car offered with that motor) gets the weakest variant.

If money was no object...at that point I'd get Nakai San on the phone and have him build me a RWB 964. :D Turbo of course.

Yeah, I've never been a fan of the "flappy paddle gearbox" as Mr. Clarkson would say.

As for the cayman/boxter... Yes they come with the manuals, but it's still a cayman/boxter... Which makes it like a Harley Sportster. In that, yes it is a Porche... but it's the Porche that other Porche owners talk shit on.

That beaing said, if I were to shoehorn a late model carrera motor in something, I would save a shit ton of money over buying a boxter/cayman and buy an old 914. I'd save some cash, have a car with absolutely no driver's aids, and still have the respect.

But that's not exactly the case anymore, considering how much they've improved. Some Porsche owners may have a stick up their ass to the point where they even downtalk lesser models from the same brand, but I don't think that they're so oblivious these days to the point where they don't know that Porsche is purposely making the Boxster/Cayman slower by giving it a slightly lesser powerplant.

An uncle of mine who is in-house legal counsel for Progressive and lives in the Corona del Mar area of Newport Beach is a BIG Porsche guy... Porsche magazines on all coffee tables, Porsche mousepad, etc. He's got a 911 Carrera and a 1976 912E in his garage and will likely add a new 911 Carrera S PDK within the next year and possibly replace his wife's Lexus RX with a Cayenne (though she wants a Q7), but he's admitted that the Cayman is a better driver's car and will hand his current 911 its ass. But when we talk cars, he still kicks himself for passing up a Ferrari F40 that he could've acquired for $250k about ten years ago.

^I would too... Unwrecked and unmolested those F40's are going for 4 times that these days.

well, now.. if we're dreaming, i'd take the last RS3 with a proper gear box.. an F40. either one would work for me. you know what? i'll be cheap and take an NSX. any of those cars will keep me smiling for life. oh.. but i would rather have my Evo than the NSX. barely.
