Anybody go through CHP inspection for salvaged car?

I've been reading that when you take your vehicle for inspection by the california highway patrol, you have to have all the reciepts for all the parts that were replaced. what if some parts were bought off some of the members here and i didnt get a reciept?

What are you trying to pass???
you've mentioned inspection, does this refer to a fix up ticket? Registering the vehicle from out of state? Or a ref ticket ???
    is this a safety issue????

i think he got a fix it ticket, and he bought used parts from members to replace the "modified" part. I think he is asking if the "recipe" needs to be present when he takes the car to get checked out to clear his ticket.

If you repaired a vehicle with a salvaged title and are trying to get it registered for road use again I believe you can also have that inspection done by DMV. That would be form REG31.

I've done them before.... you usually need to take it to a brake and light inspection at an authorized center and then the DMV will check the Vins. The CHP does the same thing (Vin check) but the DMV is faster and you dont need an appointment.

I bought my Evo back from insurance back in 07 I just needed a brake and light cert
Not sure on the law now and days though

Yes you will have to get a brake and lamp certificate. If you read the top of the REG31 form it says right there that DMV can perform the VIN check....along with a properly trained peace officer. They just want to be sure you didn't do a VIN switch and that they all match at the proper places on the vehicle.

Never heard of the CHP thing. I think that a salvage title required VIN check and brake and light inspection. read more about salvage cars for sale in California

I know a friend done this for a Salvage Car. The car had a front end hit. He repair the car and DMV requested to have sherif inspect the car to make sure everything was properly repair. The sherif inspected all front, security stuff like air bags and lights and other aspects to make sure the cars is running compliant with all aspects.

So you need to be sure to repair or consider why the car was salvage. I not an expert, but there is other implications like insurance and car value. If you have specific question, I can ask my friend for details.

I did it for my mustang, all you need is a brake and light (done by a third party not dmv or chp) and a vin verification, which can be done on site at your local dmv. The chp inspection, while thorough, is not necessary.
