Holds boost very well. Did you guys keep torque below 400 to salvage the stock block at the time, or is that just the torque it put down? I mean you can always throw more boost down low to increase torque, but I feel it's like playing Russian Roulette on a stock block track car.

At the time it was a 80k mile motor, tracked since new, running only 100 octane (no E-85) depended on as his long commute (Victorville to Lancaster) daily driver. Torque was more than plenty.

very nice Matt. Looking forward to the results.
Also, I'm not sure if the extra oil capacity of that AMS oil pan is worth the extra headache you will have with it on there. Even when its properly modified and fitted, every single one I've seen has developed leaks. Its just a headache that can be avoided. I don't think Moroso/AMS did the best work on that one.

  5. #25
    Don't jinks me yet... :)

yeah, I'm fully aware of the crap flange, but its been awhile so I'm hopeful AMS/Moroso alleviated the issues. You can see where they spent some additional time on the pan.

Got the motor dropped in yesterday. Still need to install the t-case for it to be completely installed... Had to wait on some gaskets or it would have been dropped in last week. BUT the worst thing was that when i opened the tranny box up Jacks Transmission had sent all of the needed gaskets in with the tranny. Oh well...

While the motor was out I removed all the EGR stuff...

Next up is to mount/install the following:
    - Fuelap FPR
    - Zeitronix Ethonal Content Anyalyzer
    - Walbro 400 install w/ it hotwired in
    - some more aero...

Hope to get it cranked so I can get some break-in miles on the motor, swap out the old injectors for the FIC 2150cc's and get her dyno'd on 91 and E85...!

Track day plans are to hit up some HPDE for some shake down runs and then run Super Lap Battle/GTA in November to finish out the short track year...

    Sweet Jacks Transmission packaging...!!!

Whats the pricing like for a transmission rebuild by Jacks? I'm going to rebuild everything eventually so I don't have to worry about reliability much.

Besides Jack's having stellar service and doing excellent work, they also have a really solid and informative website...right!? I had all these questions when I was going to do my trans. with them and ALL of them were answered on their site + youTube videos.

    SHE'S ALIVE...!

Amazing...! She fired up on the second crank...!

With the help of Lod's expertise and constructive criticism (who is also Formula Drift driver Joon Meang's crew chief), she fired right up. Help from not only Lod, but from all the pros at RRE have made this all a breeze...

After a quick 20 mile jaunt around Sante Fe Springs, CA I came back to the shop and drained the oil and cut open the filter for inspection of any type of oil conatamenation.... Results looked good...

So it's now officially time to get in some varying RPM break in miles...

    Here's some craftiness....

I decided to make a front mount oil cooler setup but still utilize the OEM pusher fan. In doing so I needed to make/fab a new power steering cooler...

I removed the front loop cooler to make room for the larger oil cooler and replaced it with a smaller cooler. I also relocated it to the front right wheel well...

In the above pic, the oil cooler is just in a moc setup but will be fabbed to sit there...

At the moment, the oil cooler lines are looped. As I'm holding of on installing the oil cooler until the motor is broken in completely.

The car is close but still far from total completion. Well to think of it it'll never be completed...

    Still to do list

    - route/fab/install oil cooler
    - install Walbro 400
    - install FIC 2150cc injectors
    - install ZEITRONIX ECA readout
    - install voltex rep bumper w/ modified brake ducting inlets
    - install Binary brake ducts
    - dyno tunes
    - prep for track day
    - track day, track day, track day

Haha yup that they do... They offer a lot of different services. I'm really impressed.

Well I got around to making brackets for the oil cooler. Surprisingly with simple garage tools I was able to make 'em at home and not needing anything from Road Race Engineering...

I took some measurements of distances from the radiator-to-oil cooler, and the oil cooler-to-intercooler... With the oil cooler being almost 2-1/2"in away from the radiator and a little over a 1"in from the intercooler. So I wouldn't think heat soak or radiant heat from either the radiator, oil cooler, or intercooler will effect each other...

These are just the raw pics.

Next up are some photos of the radiator brackets which pull the radiator closer and the tunnel ducting for all the coolers...

    Enjoy...

Well here some pics of the ducting. I still need to finish the bottom portion, but the sides are completed...

    PASSENGER SIDE

Also made some radiator brackets to pull it in to sit flush against the radiator support...

With just the side ducting and new brackets I experienced a 20 degree drop in water temp yesterday with ambient temps in the low 90's.... Normal water temp cruising is 180 or so.... So I would assume its benefiting....

Thats great! You took out the A/C as well correct? IIRC, the A/C condenser sits where your oil cooler now sits right?

Taking out the A/C is 30lbs of un-needed weight.
