Exhaust leak causing LEAN AFR readings on wideband????

Ive got a buschur downpipe which does not use a gasket at the o2 housing. With that being said, I most likely have a leak right there my question is will that cause my wideband to read lean??

right now I'm seeing 15-15.5 @ idle which scares me..

my car was tuned with an AMS downpipe which re-uses the stock donut gasket.

Looked it up you are right: http://www.jonesland.com/evo/Buschur_Install.htm

I don't know, have you tried to put a couple regular 3" or 3.5" exhaust gaskets on it? That might work.

Dont need gaskets in the Land of the Corn. But yeah, if you think about it, if air leaks in where there is no gasket, then the O2 sensor will see more air than it normally would if things were actually sealed up. Lean reading with things not sealed yes. Under full throttle if anything was leaking stuff would be leaking out so your WOT readings would be normal.

So what you are saying is... To stop leaks... You need to drive it through a corn field?

    LMAO

I read 15-16 at idle. I was told WOT is what is important.. Could I have a problem?

WOT is what matters. At part throttle the ECU has full control of things and is adjusting the AFR with the fuel trims. You can look at your fuel trims to see if things are OK at idle. If they werent, then you would have a check engine light for things being too lean and the ECU not being able to fix it like it wants to.

In the Land Of Corn people drive straight at WOT so exhaust gaskets dont matter much. In So Cal, we sit in traffic. Exhaust gaskets more important here.

I thought you were referring to e85 at first.

The exhaust fumes follow the path of least resistance and your exhaust piping is just that. There is a GREAT deal of exhaust trying to escape at once and it will try to "follow the pack", for lack of a better term, lol. Once it creates a flow, it will indeed suck air IN from the leaks and introduce air into the stream like zl1560 mentioned. This suction is known as "scavenging" and is why sometimes its better to use an exhaust system rather than go with open headers on some setups because the 'scavenging' effect literally aids in the exhaust being pulled from the combustion chamber, helping to lower the back pressure even more than an open header could.
