    License plate, loud exhaust, emissions.

Now I need to go back to stock :/ need to find all the stock parts again...

  4. #4
A ref is just for emissions. Your two citations are for probably no front plate and a modified loud exhaust.

Good luck buddy. This regulation is killing the scene in CA. What is next?? Buy just wheels and body kits? I hope you sort it out. Think to add resonator to lower police attention. Where did you get the ticket?? In SD I just heard about Mira Mesa boulevard. A lot use the sentence " No flying zone" for Mira Mesa nowadays

Got the ticket in Irvine, and I have a reasonably quiet exhaust + an additional resonator...

Does anybody know if it's possible to just pay the fine without going to the state ref? Will that clear it?

Your fines are for your plate and exhaust, the ref is for your emissions. They are separate issues you have to contend with. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way around the ref.

actually it looks like there might be a bailout fine you can pay that is like $1000 on top of the other fines to not hassle with it. Although your car is flagged after that.

Ugh :/ currently if I drive the car and get pulled over, it will be impounded. after I pay the fine, can I still drive it...?

Marketplace. Wasn't speeding, wasn't stupid, got a ticket for loud exhaust, and the officer basically said, either you can open it or I will open it.

On a side note, was also pulled over for speeding on my way to work because I was late because I had to go home and change vehicles. This one's my fault, I know, but today is not my fucking day.

haha the exact same thing they told me when I got pulled over in my rsx. assholes.

Under the law, they cannot force you open your hood unless a search warrant. Also, just paid off a heavy fine and say you sold the car. Worst comes to worst, transfer the title to one of your family member and transfer it back.

Jeff, sorry to hear this. Pain in the ass for sure, but you'll get it figured out no problemo.

This whole thing is a waste of time and money. Preaching to the choir i know but it pisses me off to no end. I understand it when the person is being a danger, and that's not what we're talking about here.

It's partly this BS that has prompted me to mod my car as sneakily as possible. Super quiet two stage exhaust, big HFC that looks legit, and nothing under the hood to raise any eyebrows. Sometimes i feel like i've given in.... I look at it like i will beat them at their own game.

    amen brother.

it sucks that us imports get profiled and stopped for no reason. sure some guys are asking for it, but for those like Jeff who were just minding their own business, that is just nuts. there are LOUDER cars out there.

that said, Irvine is a pretty *safe* area so most of the time, there's not much happening. so traffic stops are most likely one of their main revenue sources.

As stated in some of the comments above, you have two options. You either basically return the car to stock in order to pass the state ref. or pay the fine. The issue with simply paying the fine is once your caught again. The risk is there either way when modding a car.
