Angry Help!!! Evo X GSR with High Rev at idle in neutral and in gear! need help asap!

Hello everyone. I did a search but couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a crazy idle on my 2011 Evo X GSR. It idles normal when I first start driving it but once it warns up it revs at idle in neutral and while its in gear. It started out doing it every once in a while but has progressively got worse to the point it does it every time I come to a stop, after it gets up to temp. Its to the point I can smell the clutch burning. It did it with the car stock on stock rom and still doing it with mods and retune. Its driving me crazy cause nobody seems to know whats going on. The cars runs fine, its just this crazy high idle thats bothering me. If I turn off the car while its idling high, it goes back to normal once I restart the car for that moment until I go make the next stop. Any ideas? I already got retuned a couple times, and the car has been boost and vaccum leak tested with nothing found. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    EVO VIII
I do not have an X, so I have not replied but this has been a problem with my EVO VIII. There were 2 things I did to deal with this. First, on the 4G, there was an idle control bolt at the back of the motor. In a lot of cases, a minor tweak of that bolt would fix the issue. However, when I rebuilt my motor, RRE recommended that (probably to stop me from whining) I replace my idle control motor thingy. I know this is not very tech but I HATE having a high idle (i.e. 1200-1500). I know next to nothing about the motor in the X but maybe this might help you on your Googling path.

You might try going to a local reputable tuning shop. I haven't heard of this problem before but maybe try what jamesinger mentioned.

GL man, let us know if you find the problem.

thanks for the replies guys. I might be taking it to RRE this week but havent got a call back yet if they can squeeze me in on Friday morning. As far as the Idle air controller the Evo X's run a diffirent system. Its drive by wire so the throttle and idle is controlled by other sensors.

We see random throttle body failures on the fly by wire mess. Coolant can leak internally into the electronics and make a mess. Otherwise there is nothing else that controls the idle. Either the computer is telling the throttle plate to do whacked stuff, or the computer is telling it to do the correct stuff and the throttle plate is doing whacked stuff. Troubleshooting is required to see which it is.

Thanks for the info Mike. I have an appointment scheduled for next Tuesday there to have this diagnosed. I just got a "service engine soon" on the dash today on my way home from work so hope that helps figure this thing out. The weird thing is, since the light came on, the idle seems to correct itself a little better, but is still acting crazy. I look forward to bringing it in and getting this problem taken care of, thanks again.

If you have a high idle, the ECU sees that there is a high idle and will turn on the SES light to let you know that there is a code stored for the idle being too high.

Happened opposite thing to me rev too low and died. I cleaned throttle body and it goes away. I assume either throttle body or you just need to reset and let ECU learn idling?

Reset is disconnect the battery for like 30 min, I usually just leave it disconnected overnight just because. Did RRE say what was wrong with the tune, or what made them think it was the tune?

It did it when it was stock and it did it when it was tuned by an unknown tuner. How would it be the tune? Are you a customer? Has the car been to the shop? I looked in our customer records and I don't see anyone named openmynd11 :-/

Not really in detail, i think they mentioned something about the fuel trims.

Yea im a customer. One of the techs there said it was tje tune. The cars under my name (James Ochoa). The car was recently tuned by btack tuning. But the car also had the same issue on the stock rom and a tune done by you with the previous owner (Tien Wong). So i took the car to there and left it overnight and i got a call saying everything checked out ok mechanically and the problem was the tune causing the high idle. I dont know who diagnosed it there but I just want to get it fixed.

The car had 2 codes come up recently. One was P0113 IAT SENSOR HIGH OUTPUT (SENSOR 1)
The other code was P0171 which said something about lean condition. Any ideas? I swapped mafs with my friend who has an evo x cause the iat sensor is built into the maf and the car still revs high. Any help would be appreciated.
