    JD Motorsports Time Attack Evo

    I haven't created a post in a while, but I thought I would share our team's efforts, JD Motorsports. I will routinely update this thread, as it seems the Motorsports section on this site needs some more activity!

    Last year we ended the season with a 1:49.4 at GTA's Super Lap 2014 event at Buttonwillow Raceway park. This was accomplished on a factory long block only putting out 400 whp on RRE's dynapack due to a certain vendor sending us the wrong wastegate, not once, but three times.... With a a lot of aero and suspension tweaks to get the mechanical and aero grip up for much faster cornering, we are the first and only stock block Evo that we know of to crack the illusive Sub 1:50 territory at Buttonwillow.

    Below are some photo's of the car at SLB where we finished with a top 5 finish in Modified AWD despite struggling with some mechanical and set up issues after some last minute changes. After reviewing the winning team's data (they posted their GPS speed data on Youtube, lucky us!), we found out we were the same in the corners and even faster in some. Not bad for some KW V3's that we tweaked specifically for the car. Unfortunately for us, we were left in the dust in the straights, with as much a 17 mph top speed difference at some points around Buttonwillow. We need more powa!!!

    This year we plan to further develop the aero package, engine, and suspension in the pursuit of even faster lap times. I will routinely share updates here in this thread.

    great. what is planned for the engine? regarding aero, what are you upgrading from last year lessons learn?

    To be honest, I was quite happy with our aero package last year, but the team has decided we want even more down force for this year.

    We tested a double diffuser set up at Big Willow and validated it. It worked so well we we were able to trim out almost all the AOA on the wing and still be flat in T8. It also moved the center of pressure forward versus being so rear biased.

    This year we are making a custom wide body front so we don't have to run such big tire spats anymore, which will work much better with our widened front track.

    For the engine, hopefully we can pick up some some new sponsors to build a block and really put the Borg Warner 7670 to work. On a side note, the BW 7670 spools like like a stock IX turbo on E85! Thanks to Khiem at KT Motoring for hooking us up with this amazing snail!

    Here was the car getting re-aligned an corner balanced at CMBuildz in Simi Valley. We recently got sponsored by Anze Engineering which pioneered a way to incorporate the Penske Racing Shock into McPherson Struts. We tested these in December with great success.

    We recently partnered up with PST (Precision Shaft Technologies) out of Florida. We took some good photo's of the install for them and will be creating detailed instructions of how to install one. It should be on their website shortly.



    The unit is a one piece carbon fiber design and only weighs 18.5 pounds compared to the 37 pound stock unit. The unit has been tested on road courses at over 170 mph with no issues.

    There is my install of the shaft. It did require quite a bit of effort, but damn is it awesome. I am still in love with it.

    Thanks Gordo! Yup, 1000 pound springs. I like them a lot actually. Penske's have been valved for this spring rate.

    Nice, it will be interesting to see how it compares to our install. I can't wait to see how it feels on track. Every second counts! LOL

    Chris and JL installed the carbon shaft last week over at CMBuildz. PST has made recent design updates to make installation even more straight forward. We didn't have an issues with install.

    CMBuildz putting in work installing the new fuel cell. This should make the car much safer compared to last year. During SLB on session one, the surge tank welds decided to leak in multiple pieces while on track. Luckily the AEM series II saved the motor despite the lack of fuel pressure. There was fuel everywhere and we had to get towed in during session one as the engine completely lost its fuel supply. We ended up by-passing the surge tank and sucking it up by adding more gas aka more weight as to avoid any fuel starvation issues in the corners.

    New oval side exit exhaust which will allow for a bit more clearance when working with things on the underside of the car.
