    Time to upgrade

    Hello all,

I haven't posted in some time but still manage to lurk the forums for sale threads and build threads. My fiancee and I recently bought a new Mercedes's which allows me to drive our Escape and put the evo in the garage. With that being said, I can now start toying with the Evo due to it not being my daily driver anymore. My plan these next couple of months are to build a 2.3 stroker, add a FP Red (Old MHI housing), and store the original motor that's in the car now. I also bought Bilsteins and they will go out next week to be rebuilt and re-valved.The build list is posted below along with some pictures.

    Build list:
    4g63 block (Purchased)
    Evo 9 head (Purchased)
    Manley 100mm crank (Purchased)
    Manley H-Beams (Purchased)
    ARP L19 HS (Purchased)
    OEM Oil Pump (Purchased)
    OEM Water Pump (Purchased)
    OEM Master Gasket set (Purchased)
    OEM Balance shaft Delete (Purchased)
    OEM Oil Pan (Purchased)
    Fluidampr Viscous Damper (Purchased)
    FP Red/old Style (Purchased)
Wiseco 1400HD Pistons (Waiting on Machine shop for specs)
ACL Bearings (Waiting on Machine shop for specs)
    Belts & Bearings (Purchased)

    The new car

Got my turbo yeaterday. I pulled the QTP dump/02 housing off and will be selling it. I'm sending the turbo, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, and throttle body to socalporting to have them all ported/polished and Cerakote ceramic coated. I'm also going to contact RRE so I can get their stealth exhaust built and replace my agency power (which will be fs).

    Parts I picked up today:
Bilstein shocks (will be going out in a couple of weeks to have swift springs installed and revalved/rebuilt)

Also bought a ported manifold by Buschur racing today. Wasn't expecting to buy this but got a great deal on it. You can see it in the background of the picture. I'm gonna still have it coated black.

Looks like you've got some good stuff in the works. Where are you sending the Bilsteins for the service?

    Got this little guy in

I stopped by the machine shop (Costa Mesa R&D) today to drop off my FP Red that needs some threads cleaned up. Once I get it back I'm going to install the new flow advancement port cover from FP and take it over to socalporting to have it ported. I'll snap some pictures when I get it back and post them up.
I was hoping to see some progress at the machine shop and get some pictures when I went in but it seems that their super busy as all the parts were still sitting in the spot we put them. I'm In no rush to get this done so it's cool but I'm hoping it gets done in the next month or so....I must stay patient!!

I was an advocate for Costa Mesa R&D for a while, but a couple months ago my friend went their to have a 4G63 head freshened up. They did kind of a shitty job, and then one of the cam cap bolts had snapped during disassembly and they did not say anything and just left it in there. He called owner/John he didn't really say anything at all and didn't try and make it right. :/

Anyway, let us know how it goes.

    Apex Hunter,

I was Nervous about who did the work and did read a few mixed reviews about John. It seems that if you leave him be he will do great work but that could mean your down time is FOREVER. He's had my setup for a little over a month to date and I hope progress will be made within this next month. I will definitely go through everything before the engine is installed just to make sure it's ready. If I have to wait longer then 2-3 months I might have to start looking around for a place...We will see and as of now I'm happy with my decision just have to stay patient with the whole process.

My next small task will be picking injectors. I'm currently looking at the ID 2000, FIC 2150, and FIC 1650's. I have some reading to do these next few weeks but hopefully I can make a decision. The only real concern I have when purchasing is what to go with in regards to the High-Z or low-Z. The car isn't a daily driver but I want the best possible set up for E85.

    Bryan,

I have heard that as well. Contrary to my friend's recent experience, another 4G63 guy i know had a motor built by John, and it was a savage beast of an engine that went on to make well north of 600whp and lived a happy life. Costa Mesa R&D has always lagged ass, so i think you just have to go into it without much of a deadline. I'm confident they know what they're doing, just have to make sure they do it.

    David,

I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Honestly, I feel good about going with John and think it'll turn out for the best. I might not agree with how long he can take to finish work without giving updates...but I can deal with it. Anyways, It's kind of for the best that this process takes a little longer because it allows me to get a few other parts over a period of time instead of killing the bank all at once. The fiancee is starting to suspect over budget expenses with this build and she won't let anything get in the way of her wedding/honeymoon planning...I guess the good ol "I got it from a friend" and "I got it for 50% off" will have to suffice until it's all done or until she catches on and hangs me.

I know what it feels. In my case, I get some stuff and sale other. Eventually, I'm getting the stuff that I want, but it's difficult to high big amounts when the free money is not too much.

This is why I have multiple accounts for spending. I have a fun account (car expenses) that she doesn't go into in which I put monthly allowances into. I can go crazy with it and she can't say much...but if she really knew what these cars cost us I might be exiled from my fun account. My fiancée is an accountant (she's cheap) so she keeps a close eye on all of the accounts except this one, thank GOD!!!

jaja yeap. In my case, bank mails are delivered at my parent's house, so it's all more like
Morgatge - paid + Bills - paid + Food in the fridge - ok = happy life

Question, are you picks on parts come from a conversation with motor builder? is it going to be a RRE motor? I know Buschur motor, it's a motor with parts custom made for Buschur. But I want to know is if you are going to have like a RRE 2.3 motor or just 2.3 built by RRE from your personal selection.

    Evo_jfa,

I'm doing the build myself excluding the machining and porting. I have all the tools (micrometers, dial-bore, etc) from my father (he built motors for many years). As for part selection for this build, I'm just going with a 100mm crank from Manley, weisco HD Pistons for stroker that will be ordered when the machine shop tells me exact size needed along with bearings. I'll adjust rings as needed with a ring filer (if needed). In my experience motor builds are quit simple as long as you take your time, measure everything multiple times, and work in a clean environment. I won't be using anything custom or fancy...just a simple build that hopefully will handle some power. The hard time for me when building engines for myself is TIME. I seem to have no time anymore but I think I'll be able to push a few hours a weekend aside for this.
