    Is socalevo fading into obscurity?

Haven't been on here in a while but I remember people posting daily. Its like a ghost town in here. Boostedforums had its two months of shine then died out. Evoxforums still getting traffic. EvolutionM Seems to be the one to stand the test of time. They must have some good moderators over there

evom and evoxforums arent localized to southern california only.

I think the decline in traffic is because of 2 major reasons - 1) a lot have gotten rid of their evos and 2) the advent of facebook groups and social media. socal alone has over a dozen evo-related facebook groups, most of which only buy and sell stuff nowadays.

if facebook were to suddenly go dark, and social media drastically change you can bet online forums would get all that traffic back. now a ton of people selling their evos pretty much daily drive their cars and the cost to maintain the car catches up to them and cant afford to maintain them anymore. most that i know have the same excuse. as much as you can daily drive this car, you really need a dedicated daily driver.

    just my 2 cents.

Completely agree, I think FB has had a big impact on lots of forums, which sucks since it's a terrible platform for keeping track of threads or finding old information from groups.

I myself intentionally do not have a smart phone and do all my online access from a computer - either at work or home. facebook i just use strictly for what it was originally intended - networking. i rarely set up meets and if i do, i usually ask someone who has FB access to check the status. I think its getting overused to the point its becoming the jack of all trades - its become apparent that it has changed to the point its being used for buy and sell, networking, photo sharing, advertisement, dating, etc. and thats whats killing off interest on online message forums.

gone were the days when meets were actually set up on forums. even now, at the few meets I've been to a while back, people are no longer talking about cars at meets - they're almost all on their smart phones. they get bored and then leave. whats the point? back then we'd have friday meets that start from 7pm on till 2 or even 4 in the morning saturday. now, most meets dont last more than a couple hours.

lets face it, the smart phone and making internet super accessible has not only killed most of these online forums, but its also killing the meets. most meets now are just doing dumb shit. if you want to see proof, look up this youtube user called supercarsuspects. (go ahead, look it up) they do all kinds of stupid shit at meets and attract attention from the cops. doing donuts and burnouts at parking lots, shooting fireworks, just dumb shit. the kind of shit we didnt tolerate at meets back in the day. and what do 99% of the morons at these meets do? they have their smartphones out snapchatting videos and pics. whats worse? they actually do these meets in former places we had meets. so there goes the neighborhood.

sure we cant hold back the march of progress, but its progressing towards dumber and dumber "car guys" and killing off those of us who are actual car guys to the core.

I think everyone jumped on social media as quick way to share photos and they already adopted the social platforms personal general user. But honestly, it's different way to interact and for technical question always prefer to look on Forums. Maybe we are old guys refusing to use social media

Overall the car scene has changed completely. I haven’t been to meets in awhile, and the few I’ve stumbled on is just a bunch of idiots similar to what’s seen on YouTube. Most don’t know anything about their own cars, so it’s difficult to carry a conversation regarding vehicles, performance, etc.

From what I've seen, people don't like to drive far for meets. Seems like everyone is complaining. They don't want to put a lot of miles on their Evo but they use those as their daily. Go figure.

I prefer forums for info. Facebook groups cater too much to the "15 second attention span" crowd.

Even a couple years ago when there were 20 posts a day here it was 90% for sale stuff. I did a count. It is mostly the same deal on the 2 big EVO forums. Read through the new posts for the day and see what sub forum they are in. And that is what the FB forums do mostly now. For the most part from EVO internet forums to presidents the people end up getting what they deserve. Email lists were where it all was before forums killed them. You all shoulda seen the high signal to noise ratio there was in the Talon Digest. The advent of forums drug down the average IQ of the modified car owners by an easy 50%. And you all are sad about FB messing up Forums Lolly LOL. "But sparklebunny69 says you can do it" "clownfart makes 500 whp on a stock fuel pump" People used to have actual names and shit back when I had to walk 5 miles in the snow to get internet!

I'm still dizzy from all the BS and hatred surrounding the whole mess behind that one guy claiming to have a Mustang dyno 400+ whp car with a stock turbo on the Facebook forums. Ultimately the guy ended up parting out his car, and at one point didn't he list an upgraded turbo for sale? But claimed he never used it? Despite his power curve looking exactly like a bigger turbo where torque didn't peak until around 3900 rpm? I remember his name, but I'll be nice and not mention it.

Serious question though, if we do post another meet, will people actually drive and come? I know it's hard to balance life as it stands, but some people are all talk and don't actually show up when actual meets do come along. Heck I did a toy drive at the same time last year and drove down myself to san diego to collect the toys from the Evo owners there. They had a bigger group show. filled up two boxes. Up here, it was just one Evo owner that showed up. It was embarrassing.

I'd be down to show up for a meet, though I'm guessing for most of us here the hard part will be finding a time that works for the majority. I've occasionally been showing up to the ones on Tuesday nights at KT still, but it really depends on how beat I am after work if I'm able to make it out there. My car is actually still up there, so I'm partially in attendance.

If anything it will likely be on a weekend. usually a good chunk of people are off saturday afternoons or evenings. But as always, a few dates and times would come up for proposal and majority wins, unless its a specific meet that needs to be only on a certain time of day.
