Greetings from Bangkok! (2003 EVO 8)

Some of you guys might’ve remembered my 03’ EVO from the earlier years of SocalEvo.net. I have since moved out of California to Bangkok over a decade ago, and was fortunate to have my EVO shipped over. Sixteen years passed and I still have my EVO basically unchanged from those days! Here are some pics for the updates!

How much did that cost you to ship?

    That looks clean!

Thanks! Well the shipping was only $2K but the tariffs and legalization fee for road use costed as much as a brand new EVO in the states. Still it was a bargain compared to buying a new EVO at $120K in this country back then.

I'm impressed by your dedication. Both the long term ownership and going the distance to get that car going at no small expense. VERY cool.

Are you finding some fun things to do with the car over there? Cool garage too :)

Thanks! Well, I think the roads in So Cal suited these cars better since all that we got here are congested city streets and big open highways (with very loose law enforcement). The other thing that I found interesting is that most EVOs in the country are actually conversions from normal Lancers. Since the tariff is high on performance cars, most people just bought regular Lancers and converted them in to EVOs with donor cars from Japan. So they actually had to cut and welded the whole EVO chassis and body parts into their existing Lancers' unibodies. It is a lot of work but the labor cost here is next to nothing compare to the States.

that means you have one of the few authentic Evo there.

    That's cool.

Yes, there are probably 20-30 authentic CT9A EVOs in the whole country. Mine was the only LHD car at the time it was registered.

Wow, so I would assume the rest was JDM.

I doubt it would a UKDM one that could be a FQ series
